Troubleshooting and Bug Reporting Guide
Since Airships is still in Early Access, and because computers are complicated beasts, the game may not work correctly on your computer. This guide contains things to try to fix it on your own and known incompatibilities.

If you can't get the game to work, please do get in touch with me via email ( zarkonnen@gmail.com ) or Steam chat. If your computer meets the specs, I want the game to be able to run on it. Whether the problem is ultimately with your machine or with a bug in the game, I want to get to the bottom of things in all cases.

Troubleshooting if the game is crashing or failing to launch
  • Try reinstalling the game.
  • Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date.
  • Plays.tv and Raptr are known to cause the game to crash. If your computer is running either of them, turn them off or uninstall them. Note that some computers come bundled with this software, so it may be active on your machine even if you did not install it yourself.
  • Try running the game using System Java.
  • On Linux, make sure you have the xorg-xrandr package installed.
  • Try running the game by opening the install folder, right-clicking on "game.jar" and choosing "Run with Java Runtime" or similar. To open the install folder, right-click on the game in your Steam library, choose "Properties", to to the "Local Files" tab, click "Browse Local Files...". Note that you have to install Java on your computer for this step to be available.

Troubleshooting if the game window appears in odd places or is unable to go fullscreen
  • On Windows, right-click on Airships.exe in the install folder, select "properties", choose the "compatibility" area and check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".

Getting Help
If you are unable to get the game to work properly, please contact me[gmail.com]. Please include the following information if possible, as it will make diagnosis a lot easier.

Windows
  • Your operating system version and graphics card type.
  • The log file from %APPDATA%\AirshipsGame\log.txt. To open APPDATA, open the start menu, type "%APPDATA%", and hit enter.
  • Any files starting with hs_err from the install folder.
  • Immediately after the game has crashed or failed to launch, go into the Event Viewer, and copy any errors logged in the "Application" category. To open Event Viewer, open the start menu, type "Event Viewer", and hit enter.

Mac
  • Your operating system version and graphics card type.
  • The log file from ~/Documents/AirshipsGame/log.txt. To find it, go to your home folder, open Documents, then open AirshipsGame.
  • Any files starting with hs_err from the install folder.
  • Immediately after the game has crashed or failed to launch, go into the Console, and copy the last ten log lines or so. To open the Console, hit command-space, type "Console" and press enter.

Linux
  • Your operating system version and graphics card type.
  • The log file from ~/.airshipsgame/log.txt.
  • Any files starting with hs_err from the install folder.
  • Try launching the game directly from the command line. Include any messages printed out.

Known Issues
(as of the time of this writing, July 10, 2016)
  • About 3 players have reported a problem where the game crashes after about 10-30 minutes of play on Mac OS. If you are affected by this problem, please get in touch, as investigation is ongoing.
  • One player reported they were unable to launch the game through Airships.exe or AirshipsSystemJava.exe on Windows 10. Installing Java and launching the game directly from game.jar resolved the problem in this case.

Where should we report bugs in general? Just the forum here or do you have some sort of bug tracking portal where we can report them?

Ok cool. And what about things that are softer than true 'bugs' such as look-and-feel QA type stuff, feature requests and the like? Still this main General Discussion forum?

I am a QA-type person and will readily dump my observations in there if you'd like, but would rather not clog things up.

When I order a bomber to cease fire, it seems continue loading bombs into bomb bay (no motion), then drop 3-4 bombs per time when open fire, until "loaded" bombs depleted. You can see a ship with one bomb bay drop 3 or 4 bombs in my screenshot.

"Feature"

OK, I found another bug, or trolling feature in multiplayer.

Ship AI don't target disarmed target when other target are firing at them, even when they are manually ordered to do so, so one player can use unarmed boarding ship or blocker ship for trolling, effectively.

One other player use a bunch of unarmed boarding ship and a very heavy armored fort in a 5000pt battle. I myself use some blocker ship to stop boarding ship, and we found that cannons can't target these unarmed ship at all when my cruisers or his fort is in range.

Another problem is also about target priority. When firing at heavy armored target, ship AI goes for struct, as struct have less HP. This feature make some building almost invincible, they can use a bunch of struct as a huge cannonball sponge.

During said battle I managed to ground his boarding ships, but my cannon cruisers wasted lots of ammo on said "struct sponge", so when they run out of ammo, they only caused slight damage on building's main body.

Unarmed ship trolling in multiplayer. By the bullet trail, you can see my ship is firing at a small building on the other side of the map when the troll ship is ramming. You can see this ramming ship use struct to ram to take advantage of this bug.

Hi.. I made a mod and now i cannot remove it, there is no X next to mine or any other mods they are all just stuck there. This really sucks, as I need to edit the mod but can't since it just keeps reloading the one 'stuck' there.

So you get rid of mods you subscribed to by unsubscribing to them. And if in doubt, you can delete the "mods" and "steam" directories in your AirshipsGame directory, and that will reset things. (See above for how to find that.)

Thanks for responding. But, there is no steam or mods folders in my airships directory. All the ships I have made and the mod i made are nowhere to be found on my PC, but show up in my game.

It is really frustrating. And weird.

Note they wouldn't be in your install directory, they'd be in %APPDATA%\AirshipsGame!

So There is a Bug that if a airship has Zero movement. Like for the Floating islands mods.
If you tell that ship(by accident or on purpose) to leave a settlement. They are stuck above that settlement. And can't even re-land. :(

My suggestion for this problem is to make a small landing circle around every settlement. That allows ships with no movement speed to be able to re-land. The circle wouldn't have to be very big. Since ships with no movement are right on top of the settlement when they try to move.
