[Suggestions] GUI and QoL
As requested earlier in a separate dev post, here’s some feedback in regard to the UI and general QoL. A lot of it is has to do with the Design & Fight section of the game. Obviously, all of this is personal opinion but if other players want to chime in, feel free to do so.

General GUI and QoL

- Have the menus and options shortcut letters embedded in the words themselves, as was done with the Steel GUI mod.

- Add a pop-up bubble or a window with text to briefly describe the clickable menus (What is "Tutorial"? What is "Design & Fight"? etc). It took me a bit to figure out what Open Combat was, for example.

- Less resilient trees!

Combat

- In single-player combat, add keyboard shortcuts for the game speed.

- In general combat, make the color framing selected units more obvious (or make the intensity of the color framing a graphic option).

- In general combat, when a unit is part of a control group, add the number of the group to the unit status bar (next to the > ).

- In addition to the information currently provided by units’ status bars, add live information regarding the situation in combat – pop-up text or scrolling menus stating, for example, which unit is now available for command, which is low on ammo or coal, which has been disabled or destroyed, which is currently being boarded, and so on. Basically, a combat log which can be viewed in-game and reviewed after.

- Replays!

Design & Fight

- In the Airship/Building/Landship editors, when the Remove Module/Paint/Decoration option is selected, make it so that a right-click on the mouse brings the cursor back from X to its default state (as Escape currently does).

- In the editors, move the Search options to the upper toolbar.

- In the editors, use a different shortcut for Zoom to Fit and Undo. Currently, both use Z.

- In the editors, move the list of overlay types (Pathing, Hit Points, etc) lower or elsewhere on the screen, so that it doesn’t overlap with system messages (at least in 1920x1080, can't say for other resolution).

- In the editors, make it so that there are Undo and Redo Last, and Undo and Redo All options. Currently, Undo/Redo for Modules and Armours are basically Undo/Redo Last, while Undo/Redo for Paint and Decoration are Undo/Redo All. Having separate options would be nice.

- In the editors, have a proper pop-up description for the overlay for Explosion Damage. It’s currently only showing a string.

- In the editors, have the top left menu show stats for ammo and coal per minutes.

- In the editors, add copy/paste and cut/paste options or shortcuts.

- In the editors, for Modules, have a button or a shortcut to open or close all categories.

- In the editors, for Modules, basically make every module flippable with a separate option. It would reduce the number of modules listed, and open some design options.

- In the editors, for Modules, remove the Basic category of modules and add a customizable Favorite category or some kind of Last Used or Often Used category instead.

- In the editors, for Paint, add more colors to the color palette.

- In Open Design, have the screenshot also show the exterior of the unit. Either two screenshot side by side, or some kind of GIF image.

Also, wishful thinking, a Landscape editor. The Mission option offers something like it, but a separate editor would be sweet.

Thank you! :vote_yes:

Thank you, that is a brilliant feedback post. I would like to hold it up as basically the optimal way of doing feedback.

By and large, I can do these things. Exceptions are noted below. So anything I don't comment on is on the to-do list now.

- The problem with the embedded shortcut letters on the buttons was that a lot of people failed to see them.

- Replays are a thing that I totally forgot to add to the "Nice to have" category in the dev plan. They should be feasible, but note that they will only work as long as the game's version doesn't change.

- What do you mean by "system messages" overlapping with the overlay types?

Ah, make sense.

I'm referring to the messages that the game display in the editors when there's something wrong with a design - the ones in the top right with the small red or white X's. When I click Overlays, the list of the various overlays overlap these messages. mostly hiding them.

And thank you. Airship is a gem. I hope that the full release goes well.

Oh, of course! Thanks. :)

Oh, I forgot. Not something GUI or QoL related, but in regard to the option allowing the AI to use a player's designs, would it be possible to have individual checks to allow or disallow each design individually? There are some designs that I just don't want the AI to use against me! :-p

or maybe rather than making individual checks, a check for folders of designs?
(i can see the first option causing some mess and repetitive straining injuries >.>)
