Predestination

Same old problems !!
Hi.
Bought this game a few months ago.
Could never complete the tutorial due to crashes.
Just returned to give it another try..... And yep.....Still exactly the same.
This time the bug occurrs after selecting the factory lvl 1 research as requested. Then the screen freezes and is overlapped by the main menu screen option.
I give up...Wish i could get my money back...complete waste of both time & cash !!

Hey madmikmouse,

I'm sorry that this problem is still happening to you. I'll do whatever I can to resolve the bug, but it hasn't shown up on any of our test machines or virtual test environments and no other player has reported experiencing it. There's not much we can do to fix this bug without more information on it or a way to replicate it.

The last time you reported this problem ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/340210/discussions/0/341537388325782886/ ), you described an odd visual bug with the menu screen being highlighted behind the research screen and I requested a screenshot of this as it could provide clues as to what's causing your issue, but you never responded.

I'm happy to dedicate dev time to this rare bug, I'll even make personal test builds for you to try various fixes, but I'll still need that screenshot to try and figure out what's going wrong. Can you also confirm that you've tried re-installing XNA 3.1? This has solved several strange one-off bugs on some players PCs, and 99% of games would run fine if your XNA install is corrupt because only a handful of games use it.

@Nyphur +1 for cool heads.

Quick update: Someone else has reported a similar sounding bug that could have the same cause as this one, and I've been able to replicate it by forcing the game to slow down at a critical point in the tutorial code. I hope to have a resolution for this bug soon, and fixing it may solve your issue too. I'll reply again if I manage to solve it and release it as a patch.

Update: This bug MAY have been fixed in the latest version (V0.9.8.3). I completely ripped out the mouse click handling code all throughout the game and built a better system, and fixed bugs that could happen with the tutorial when the frame rate is lower than expected. The new system is much more robust and should prevent the tutorial from getting stuck or off-track. I'd appreciate it if you could let me know if this fixed the bug!

Brilliant! Thanks for confirming that the fix worked, we would never have found this bug without reports from players. We had to rip out and replace the entire keyboard and mouse handling code but it was worth it to fix this obscure bug and unifying the mouse handling code may help us add touch screen support in the future.
