Fan Translation Character Font Patch
In an effort to aid in community translation efforts I've put together an unofficial font patch that contains all of the accented characters necessary for translating to languages that use the Latin character set.

You can download the patch from the following page:

https://www.n-fusion.com/ember/ember-downloads/

That page contains download links for both the Steam and GOG versions of the game.

Note that the patch contains the game's .exe file, so you may get some virus warnings from your browser or anti-virus software. These are safe to ignore as long as you are downloading this zip file from our official site n-fusion.com. This exe file is the same as the one on Steam (or GOG), except it contains some additional code to support accented characters.

To install this patch, simply unzip the contents of the package into the game's main directory. Make sure it overwrites 7 files: Ember.exe and media/fonts.zip, as well as 5 files in world/items.

End users should not install this patch unless they are also installing a fan translation patch. If you are going to play in English, do not install this.

This patch is not officially supported because it could cause issues when installed.

------------------------
Instructions for people that want to do their own translation:

To begin your own translation effort, first install the patch. Then you simply need to edit the files under the strings/ subdirectory to translate the in-game strings. The one "gotchya" is that for extended characters to work, those .txt files must be saved in the UTF-8 format. The easiest way to do this is probably to use a free program called Notepad++ to edit the files. To ensure the files are in the correct format within Notepad++, select Encoding->"Encode in UTF-8" on the menu bar before you save. If you do not encode the .txt files in UTF-8 the game will crash when trying to display any accented characters.

Also note that each line must end with a pipe symbol, like this: | If that symbol is missing it will combine lines and all sorts of bad things will happen. The file already ends each line with a pipe, so as long as you don't delete any, you should be fine.

Note that the books are not in that directory. All the book text is under the world/books/ subdirectory. Those files will be much more difficult to translate because they are broken up into pre-defined pages. I would suggest anyone doing translation begin with the string .txt files then look at the books after.

Sadly no, our fonts only have the Latin characters in them

Hi Devs,

thanks for that and I would say sorry for being so long not available. I have become a daughter and have two other projects for translation.

I Look up up that I found time to help translate your game quickly.

Thanks for understanding

The font of books was made by pendragon64 French voluntary translator, so that each can translate books (latin character set)

@DEVS
Is it possible to invert the order of adj+item? In Italian we call "Wooden Shield" -> "Scudo di Legno" (= Shield + Wooden strings = item + adj, not Wooden + Shield)

The entire name of the item is a single string, so it can be re-written however it needs to be. For instance, string table 02 line 536 is the entire name "Wooden Buckler", which could be rewritten as Scudo di Legno and it would show up that way in-game.

Basically, we have to get your support for in-game fonts to be able to utilize them in translations, right? Is there no option to use external fonts?

The current font supports all latin characters, so that supports plenty of langauges. As for languages that use non-latin characters, it might be possible to do your own fonts using the Ogre font tools. I'm not entirely sure how far you could get without us having to change some of the game code, but theoretically you could change the font to add those characters and give it a shot with enough technical know-how.

Many of the fonts are just truetype that are imported directly, and some use a tool called Font Studio to generate an image of the font that the game loads. So it is possible for end users to modify the fonts.

Great! And what about GOG version? Patched Steam version runs OK with custom fonts, but GOG version crashes, when it loads the same custom fonts.

I've added a link above to the GOG version of the patch, and updated the Steam version to the latest version of the game as well.

Many thanks, now it runs flawlessly :)
