Screen goes black after 5 minutes
So this game used to work perfectly on my system... I'm not sure if it is the recent update or bugs in newer video drivers, but now after about 5 minutes of gameplay the game freezes for a second.. the HDD goes wild and then WAMMO.. black screen. I can still hear sound and the game is still running but I just can't see anything. My system is a core i7 running Windows 7 64bit with 8gigs RAM and 2gigs VRAM on a gForce GT 640M. Is anyone else having this issue or know how to fix it?

You mentioned that it might be a recent gfx driver update. Have you tried to rollback your gfx drivers to your previous version?

Not yet... would be a last resort. I would of thought if it were a driver problem though I would have issues from the getgo. No other games seem to have any problems with the driver set I am using.

As an aside.. I do remember Bohemia use a copyprotection system that causes the screen to go black if it detects you are running a pirated version... Makes me wonder if something has gone screwey with my installation since that 7.2gig "update" that came out

Restored to an earlier backup (from ages ago) and still does the same thing, so it possibly is a driver issue.

The plot thickens. Dropping back to 310.70 made no difference. However dropping further back to the Acer drivers for the 640M (296.32) and the problem is fixed. So this is definitely a driver issue.

hmm yes I have the same problem.. rolling back drivers I guess.

Yes... a friend thinks it may be the nVidia game profile for Arma2 in the later drivers not allowing enough video memory. Problem is nVidia don't seem to want to hear from you UNLESS you bought one of their cards.

Are you using an nVidia card? Are they on the latest drivers? I have not updated the drivers yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a regression. My current driver version is 334.89

i have a brand new alienware so it should be updated to the latest... everything, i guess
"i have a brand new alienware", then ask Alienware for support as it sounds like a hardware failure problem or driver problem.

oh god i hope not, are you sure its nothing wrong with the game itself?

There is a copy protection mechinisim in Arma2 which causes the screen to fade if it thinks the copy is pirated.. but this is a fade. Mine just went black in an instant. The driver rollback definitely fixed it for me, so it was definitely an nVidia driver issue. If you are using nVidia drivers, try installing the same version as me and see if that fixes it
