Arma 2 is by no means a game for noobs or traditional FPS shooters. It instead caters to players who want a realistic military shooter. And realistic it is. Before playing any game, the player must properly plan their course of action with their team members, or hell will break loose. This aspect of the game is extremely fun and engaging. It's when the mission actually begins, however, that the game becomes quite unsatisfactory.
The gameplay is, unfortunately, like a three legged horse trying to win a horse race while suffering with diabetes and terminal cancer. The sad reality is that the game's graphics are not up to par with the 2008 standard I'm used to, and the actual firefights are extremely unsatisfactory. The movement, strange screen bobbling, and clunky guns don't sound good, and their damage and recoil is questionable at most times.
To make matters even worse, the interface is clunky and not easy to learn. Me and my friend were struggling to determine how to coordinate several missions. I'm all for a detailed interface, but make the options relevant in the game. Movement is even worse, and feels sadly completely broken. There are also a handful of glitches that I encountered such as falling through maps and colliding with enemy units and not being able to separate again. The AI suffers from strange glitches as well, and don't respond well to the terrain.
The worst part of the game is the voice acting. Oh god... it sounds like they hired Joe at the bakery to do the voice acting, and it really shows. I have always been a stern believer in that voice acting should only be done if you have qualified voice actors who can do that job. If not, just having text is NOT a bad thing at all.
Overall, Arma 2 is not the realistic military shooter that you should choose. The only realistic thing you will find here is a damaged keyboard from anger issues. If it is a realistic military shooter that you seek, then Arma 3 should be your choice as they fixed almost all the items I have mentioned above.
