Am I the ONLY Bookworm?

I've played this game since it first came out, and the only time I've had trouble is the STEAM version. It won't run as there is an issue with the bass.dll file. I've been in touch with the techs at Popcap, but so far they are as clueless as I am.
Anyone out there?

I love Bookworm! But I don't know what a bass.dll file should do. Apart from re-installing and verifying your install, maybe you should post your system specs and I will so my best.

EDIT: I've found 2 fixes.

Apparently, PopCap depends on a particular vesrion of bass.dll.

Solution 1: search out the bass.dll file and delete it (or rename it and put it somewhere safe). It should be in the STEAM PopCap folder somewhere. Then run the game

Solution 2: replace the bass.dll file with a copy of another one from a different PopCap game. People say the one from Zuma works. I think there are still free demo games from PopCap, you could find one of those and use that file.

Long story short - I copied their bass.dll into my system32 folder. It is not the Steam version, as part of the fix try was a different version (didn't work).

This is a common problem with Popcap games. If there's a file called bass.dll in one of the system folders, it confuses the game.

Go to C:\windows, c:\Windows\system, and c:\Windows\system32 and look for a file called bass.dll, and rename it. Then see if the game works. The game already has the correct bass.dll file in it, it's just ignoring it when the other file is there.

Bad idea = renaming any file you did not create!
People don't make up files just to be there; there's a reason for each one. When I put the file in the system folder I was taking a chance that it might overwrite a file used somewhere else. True, base.dll is probably a fairly specific file name and probably in all instances is related to audio in some way, but you have no idea how.
So always backup what you try to change before you change it. My backup was a system restore point created before the file was placed in the directory.

Which is why you rename, not delete. If anything goes wrong, change the name back.

yes. find all instances of bass.dll. write down where they are and back them up. Replace all of them with the bass.dll in the bookworm directory. If that doesn't work put a copy of it in the \system directory and the \system32 directory.

A few other of my Steam Popcap games are experiencing same issue but not all of them, followed the compatibility guide on Popcap's support site but Steam issues result after implementation. so this is not the solution. re-install does not work, nor does checking the games integrity thu Steam.. this starting to Irk me. what's up?

Try renaming the bass.dll file as I described above.

Windowa 7x64 there are no other bass.dll files anywhere else but in the game directories, and no I will not be copying one to a system directory anywhere.
but this time a game re-install worked for me... let's see how long this lasts.

IIIimitus: fix what? if you mean the sound dll thing, just copy it into your system32 folder. Please review the thread for additional help; my guess is they won't stop selling the game until no one buys it anymore!
