Weird semi-crash

Every so often while I play the game I get interrupted by an error message saying that the game has to close. But the game doesn't actually crash and I can keep playing just by moving the error message out of the way of the game. But it's still annoying because then when I quit, I have to go back and close the error message if I want to play again, otherwise Steam thinks the game is still open.
