meaning (spoilers)
I feel like I'm the only person on earth who realizes that this game is a metaphor for everything that happens before, during, and after a nuclear bomb hits.

They practically tell you that straightforward in the achievements, also consider the following:

-the median world between the lighthearted and dark worlds is a world where everything is frozen in time, with a GIANT OMINOUS SPHERE in the background, with everything around it burned all red with their eyes melted together

-the second world has the characters in a state of worry, and everything in the world has been bolted down with metal, almost as if they're in preparation for an attack

-the third world has everyone in a state of disarray from a preemptive strike before the big bomb drops

-one of the levels involves you running away from a gigantic wall of red fog that appears in a split second and instantly kills you if you touch it

-something explosive happens again ANOTHER TIME in the game after you hit a block that triggers it

-the burned, deformed, bloody hands frantically grasping for dear life appear in the worlds after the impact, but never before until the last moment of the game where...

-when the main character spends a bunch of time near the impact zone collecting those gems, by the time he finally gets to the princess they've both been horribly deformed by the impact with red melted eyes and soot-covered skin with all of their teeth showing through their lipless mouths, just like every other character in the game

In my opinion the character is in fact treveling through time intervals were you figure out that something evil has been corrupting thier world and there is in fact nothing you as the player can do about it since this evil is on a "love craft" level of impossible to stop. The only reason you can shift through these time intervals is because there is a possibility prevent this corruption from spreading through their world completely.

The first ending has your character simply "save the princess" acting oblivious to all the things that are happening. Unfortunately you pay the price as time goes to the last fixed interval where everything has became corrupted including the princess where she eats the poor protaganist.

In the second ending your character accepts that there is nothing that can be done and does what anyone would to stay with the one's you love. He corrupts himself and they live "happily ever after"

In the third ending your character has figured out that it is possible to "break" time but at the cost of everything in their world stopping for good, frozen until infinity(as no time=no end). To preserve the world from the corruption that will inevitably engolf everything, your leafy friend permenantly breaks time but not before being with the princess while he does it. Frozen together.

So if you want to be technical the "good ending" achieve is just a lie and the secret ending the the best possible outcome.

Or, the world is originally indeed horrific and that is how the native denizens want it to be. As you progress through the game you slowly unravel the absolute truth and carefully remove the numerous deceptive(lvl 1, Deception) masks of innocence(lvl 0, Innocence) and in doing so you also remove the innocent flower facade which had been bound to you against your will from the very beginning.

As you continue playing and are slowly shown the truth.. you will be put into conflict, you will try to undo what you have done (apprehension, confusion, commotion). But its no use, you cannot turn back from the path which you took.

As you make it to the last level you will have trully freed the world from a near perfect lie and accepted (lvl 8, Induction) the world for what it is. Yep, the world is inherently evil, the princess that you love is inherently evil and YOU are inherently evil.... and you wouldnt like it any other way.

Interesting theory, but that achievement is just a sarcastic reference to Braid.
