LISA on Mac OSX and Linux
Hello fellow penguins and Apple enthusiasts, I'm the person in charge for the ports of this game.

Official support for Mac and Linux has been launched and we'll do our best to sort out any issues you'll encounter.

Known Issues:
Screenshots will appear upside down unless you are opted into the Steam Client Beta (Steam -> Settings -> Account -> Beta participation) This should now be fixed in the standard client.

Messed up textures: This will happen with older nouveau drivers, please update them or use the official closed source nvidia drivers.
Alternatively you can now opt into the "linux-nouveau-oudated" branch in the betas tab in the game's properties.

The Game will crash upon exiting, don't worry though it will not affect your saves, achievements, or settings.

Missing text on AMD cards -> add the following launch option: --subImageFix=true

So what kind of CPU and GPU are on your personal test machines? Is there any difference in performance? (ex: nvidia/ati amd/intel)

The ports are using the open source implementation of the RGSS interface called MKXP.

MKXP requires your GPU and driver to support OpenGL 2.0, so it should run on anything remotely recent.

I've been testing it on recent iMac (1.5Ghz dual core i5 with intel graphics) and on my custom built PC (3.33Ghz quad core + a GTX 970) for linux.

The game ran just as well on the relatively modest powered iMac, so I wouldn't worry.

Any graphical issues? Visual tearing, incorrect rendering, etc?

None so far, but vsync is turned off by default, you'll have to edit mkxp.conf to turn it on.

I'm asking these questions partly related to Lisa, but what my main concern is I'm planning to get a new GPU and dual-boot on a common linux distro, the last time I did that Steam was extremely unstable, and couldn't launch games without a stressful amount troubleshooting.

If you want to have a good experience on Linux I'd recommend a Nvidia GPU with the closed source drivers at the moment. The open source drivers are lagging behind, and AMD hasn't managed to provide drivers yet with a consistent performance across all setups.

Yes I am fully aware of how nVidia uses OpenGL better than ATI in a landslide, I am thankfully getting a nVidia gpu. :D

So, when will you start open beta? I'm not sure, to buy or not to buy during 10% release sale.

the open beta is already going, you should be able to download it on both OSX and linux right now unless i messed something up in the configuration.

Personally, I will wait for the official release, but let me thank you in advance for your effort and the heads up. You can expect my purchase once that pengüin icon pops up. Keep up the good work!

After a post like that it's an instant buy for me. I like when devs are honest and upfront. Not mentioning having a proper beta instead of releasing broken game in hope of a quick buck. Say, will it count as a windows sale? (I bought it and about to play it on linux)

We don't split revenue based on which platform it was bought on, so it doesn't matter. We should be able to see though on which platform you have initially bought and played it on.

I want to buy this game this week but I have a macbook pro. I would like what I need to set up before downloading this game.

As long as you're fine with playing while it's still in beta, there's nothing you need to do. So far I've had no bug/crash reports from the people playing on OSX though, so things are looking pretty good.
