Dawn of Discovery - Venice

"Download Failed"
Opened the game today to continue my epic empire I've spent over 16 hours building. When I opened the game I saw "Download Failed". Hummm Opened "Load Game" to find the list empty. Click on multiplayer "Download Failed". Before I panic, I think "Ubisoft will be able to take care of this issue.... It's their servers after all." Below is the convorsation with the Ubisoft agent.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Daniel S: Thank you for contacting Ubisoft Live Support. Please give me a moment to read your question, and I'll be with you shortly.
Daniel S: Were you previously able to play with no issue?

You: Yes, the game worked for 1 week.

Daniel S: Okay. One moment while I look into this. Sorry for the wait.
Daniel S: Unfortunately, it looks like the only workaround in this case is to create a new profile. I can report the issue up for investigation, but there is unfortunately no way to recover the save games. Do you remember anything unusual that may've happened when it was last working (crashes, freezes, etc)?

You: No nothing unusual happened. No crashes or freezes. So the hours of time spent in this game are all lost? I want a refund and I will uninstall this game. Not worth the time playing if saved games are just going to vanish.

Daniel S: Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a refund for lost save data. I will be sure to report the issue up for investigation though, and I do apologize for the inconvenience. If we have any further information about this issue in the future, I will be sure that update you.

You: Unfortunately, I'm unable to accept that a refund will not be issued for load saved data. The save data is located on Ubisoft servers and is supposed to be maintained by Ubisoft unless otherwise stated. If the saved data was otherwise saved on my local machine that would be my issue.

Daniel S: As mentioned previously, we are unable to provide refunds in cases of lost save data, so their is nothing further that I can do in that regard. I do apologize for the inconvenience, and I will report the issue up for investigation though.

You: I want to speak to a supervisor immediately.

Daniel S: Unfortunately, supervisors do not take live chats, so I am unable to transfer you over to a supervisor. A supervisor would also provide you with the same information that I have provided. We are unable to offer refunds in cases of lost save data. Again, I do apologize for the inconvenience, but I'm afraid that there is nothing further that I can do in this case.
Daniel S: Is there anything else that I can assist you with today?

You: You've assisted with nothing! You've failed to restore my online account with all of my saved data located on your servers. I'll be reporting this to every software publisher, steam, and the BBB.

Daniel S: I apologize again. Were I able to restore the save data, I certainly would. There is just no way for me to do that.
Daniel S: I will report the issue up to the development team for review though.
Daniel S: Did you have any other questions today?

You: Nope

I have the same problem "download failed" I have been contacting them for a week now with no outcome. I can't play the game with my online profile, and I have 2 profiles, with two different keys. FFS

the problem started when they made the game available on steam...
ive got the same promlem here i had sent a email to ubisoft and still waiting for an answer
do let the game update! It ♥♥♥♥♥♥ my game up, I had the older version with the patches and unnoficial patch all was working fine, now Steam version updates and everything is all ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I don't think this is the problem, I don't have it on steam.

If you have the same problem write what happened on this discussion page, and Ubisoft's support answer to it.

Now that the game was finally patched, I was excitied to start playing again. I was able to access my online profile and play for a bit but after taking a break I got the dreaded "download failed" message when I restarted. I tried removing the profile folder from the C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Ubisoft\Anno1404 directory, launching the game and trying to download my profile again and I get a profile not found message. 70 hours of gameplay down the tubes and I can't access the save games for my current game. Thanks Ubi.

Anyways I warn anybody who wants to get this game to stick with an offline profile unless you want all your work to get eaten by Ubi's servers. Make a seperate online profile for multiplayer If you really want to play online.

It's so sad such a great game gets shoddy support.
Ubisoft support deleted my online account and made a new one. I lost all my achiments, but I can join the multiplayer room
and now my account doesn't work again...
I have had this game on steam for some time now. I was able to play for one day after the game was patched. When I returned for day two I was no longer able to play due to this error.
delete your old online profile, and create another one with the same name, don't download it, it won't work. Also, your achivements will be deleted I had like 80% of them. and they are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard!
I bought the game about 4 days ago and this problem just started tonight.
wtf is this ♥♥♥♥
From what I can tell, there's a grace period when starting a new profile, something like 30 hours of gameplay perhaps, but then it has to communicate with the Ubisoft server... a server that has been taken offline indefinately. Then it assumes that you've stolen the game and corrupts your save files. So essentially one of the greatest games I've ever played is a waste of time.

If this is true, you'd think Ubi would have the courtesy to actually TELL us. At least you can still use a offline profile. You can't share achievements with other people but at least you don't have to worry about your profile randomly deleting itself.
once again anti piracy obsessiveness screws over the people who actually PAY for the game.
god why do I bother.
