This is an 1-hour interactive pixel-animated story
Hi folks. I'm glad that many seem to be excited about this game, and I really appreciate the enthusiasm. c:

I'm a little afraid of particular expectations of what A Bird Story will be like, so I just wanted to clarify some stuff: It is a very simple short, at about 1 hour length (maybe a bit more). It is told without dialogues, but it is still a story-game like To the Moon, of course.

But that being said, I think it's a very different game compared to To the Moon. I mean, I think it has the same heart, but it's not meant to have intricate plot twists and perhaps revelations and that kind of tear-jerkers as in To the Moon.

I think it is really vital to not go into it with To the Moon's particular experience in mind, nor with the mentality of looking for tear-jerkers or whatnot, heheh -- that's not what it's meant to do. It's just a very simple and grounded tale that means a lot to me personally; and perhaps to others, too.

If I had to use one word to describe it, I'd say "whimsical". But really, I guess I'm just saying that I hope folks will go into it with a blank slate.

Cheers everyone, I hope you enjoy it when it's released!

-Kan

P.S. Aye, the boy in A Bird Story eventually grows up to be the patient in the next To the Moon-format game, with Eva and Neil.

Long as I don't have to wait 2 years for the next release it sounds good. Please include cards, emoticons, and wallpapers so we can continue to support you.

Sounds good to me. I think that not having too high expectations and an open/neutral mind towards a new game is a good idea. There were some games that were talked highly talked about by others and which I then tried out, and while most were good I likely had not as good of a time with them as I could have since I expected more from some games.

On the other hand I got To The Moon from a Humble Humble some months ago, never heard about it before and went in with zero expectations and it ended up being one of the most beautiful gaming experiences that I witnessed thus far.

To me, hearing that the developer puts his heart in his game(s) is good enough and this humble and honest approach as opposed to Hype is something that I like a lot. I will get this game when it releases and even if I end up not liking it(which I doubt), I see it as supporting someone who brought as the wonderful To The Moon.

Really appreciate you taking the time to write up this post. It's good to have more of an idea what to expect, as I'm sure many people (myself included) are going to be assuming A Bird Story is a sort of To The Moon 2, which it clearly isn't from what you're saying.

All that said, everything you're saying about it only makes me more eager to get my hands on it and playthrough it myself. Pretty sure this will be my first day 1 purchase in months, I can't wait :squirtyay:

One of the very few games I plan to buy on launch day.

I am totally fine with a short and off the path side game. As long as it's a good experience I am in. Hopefully if things go well it will help put you closer to getting another episode out.

I'm so excited about this game too, I really loved To The Moon and I want to love A Bird Story as well. If that story is important for the creator, means that he put his heart into it. I hope that, if it doesn't make me cry, at least makes me feel touched.

Sore, if I never played TTM, would this still be fine? It has a Tale of Two Sons vibe to it.

i'm in it purely for the story. You have always done a great job at conveying emotions and themes through both dialouge and action within to the moon and I have high hopes for A Bird Story, even if it isn't the same kind of game. In the end it will be great

Thanks for all your hard work. As far as the length goes, I was extremely happy with the Christmas episode. So, I'm sure I will be very happy with this game, regardless of the length. Quality is ALWAYS better than quantity to me. I'm not sure I will be able to afford it on day 1, but I promise I will buy it as soon as I can. Keep up the great job at Freebird Games :)

Yup, although I'm sure I'll like it. I do hope to see the same spark in the actual sequel to TtM though. I'd like to ride the emotional roller coaster again. :P
