Metaverse

This topic has been pinned, so it's probably important
Macintosh OSX Performance (Macbooks and integrated systems)
Maybe want to sticky this.

THIS IS A POST TO ENCOURAGE ALL MAC OWNERS TO BUY THE GAME, JUST IN CASE THEY HAD SECOND THOUGHTS ABOUT HOW IT RUNS.

I have just picked this up a few hours ago for the sake of the OS X World to test it all out so our Apple User friends can have something to go by, and have been putting the game through it's Paces (Video should be available soon in "Videos section" of metaverse. This is a post to encourage those whom use Macbooks (2013-now) Stock Macbooks pros with at least 8Gb Ram, i5 2.4 duo core, and an Iris GPU.

The game runs just fine in 800x600 mode, with a stable 27-60 FPS depending on what is going on, and how warm the laptop gets, Crank it up to 1200x800, and then the frame rate jumps anywhere from 26-3 FPS. Strangely enough at least for now 8x6 looks pretty much the same as 12x8 and I have even gone from Normal, High, SuperMega high (or whatever it is) With almost NO change in framerates, which is...odd. Don't try that on 1200x800 though, otherwise you will not have a frame rate...period.Building works just fine, though it is very teadious placing blocks and all the animations are smooth enough. The game does suffer when the mac throttles everything due to heat, but nothing really unstable. :tlove:

EDIT 9/24/15: Game updated and it runs fine, I feel as though there was maybe a ~5FPS drop in performance on 800x600 usually caused by the distortion effect, however it isn't consistant as most of the time the game still runs great!

PLEASE BY ALL MEANS POST YOUR MAC EXPERIENCES HERE SO WE CAN SHARE WITH THE DEVS AND HELP MAKE THIS AS SMOOTH AS CAN BE!

EDIT 10/4/15: Yussss the Smootheness has returned to us! 800x600 works great, and now 1200x800 works like the old 8x6! ! ! Performance has indeed been increased to a more stable rate and the trees go boom, this pleases us.

EDIT 10/17/15: HUGE Framerate boost on 800x600, and on 1200x800 as well! 12x8 now runs a bit smoother than the 8x6 used to, and the Simulation Deck is FANTASTIC! All mac users should experience a better gameplay experience than before, and if the framerate is still wonky, keep it on 800x600 and "normal" should be around 28-54 FPS now depending on those homicidal drones (they destroy framerates for some reason)

EDIT 12/14/15: Game works so much faster now, tutorial is neat, and the game is really shaping up. Works Fine on OSX 10.11.1 El Capitan. Extremely stable framerate on low, and a ~20-40 FPS on med and High depending on what's happening. All in all, fantastic!

I'm doing it tonight...I made a backup on an external HD so if it doesn't work hopefully I can revert back to mavericks

Works GREAT on El Capitan, I think it has a small FPS boost in fact!

I have not run into one single problem with El Capitan like most claim to have..just before you upgrade, make a backup to a hard drive in case you don't like the new OS..it does look really flat and colourful, it's kinda neat.

I totally understand if you need to do that. If you can hold off just a little longer, I think it'll pay off, though. My work pace is a little slower than usual with Christmas and New Year right around the corner. The bug is a Unity bug, but I believe I'm on the right track to a workaround. Probably won't be live before Christmas, though.

...and just to clarify for other users who may come across this post, the bug appears to be related to usage of certain external monitors on Mac.

Yours might be a different error if you're not using an external monitor.

You could try renaming your game database so that the game will initialize a new one if you're ok starting fresh. To find it, open a Finder window and click the Go menu at the top. Hold down the Alt/Option key, and you should see a Library menu item. Click that, then go into Application Support/unity.Metaware Limited/Metaverse. If you see a folder called "Database" in there, rename it to anything else, such as "Database.old," and then try running the game again.

Not that I'm qualified to answer these types of questions or anything, but, Could you guys tell me what kind of Mac you're running, like Macbook, Pro, iMac, Mini etc. and what your setup is? I might be able to play around with mine to see If I can replicate your issues, to try and help.
