As we said in the message to backers, it was a difficult decision to make regarding DLC, but we did this for a couple of reasons:
1) We talked to a lot of Steam game developers and we were advised NOT to launch a game with paid DLC as it would upset a lot of potential buyers of the game who felt they were not getting the whole game.
2) We reached a point a few weeks from launch where we could either choose to work on the DLC content or make the game more stable. At that point the game had some pretty serious bugs floating around that needed attention. The decision was made that it was more important to release the game with all those bugs squashed. We’re really pleased with that decision as release has been almost bug-free.
So what is the DLC exactly? What are we holding back?
Essentially the DLC is 6 extra characters. These will be released in two sets of three characters with each character having a new 3D figurine and a new quest, with new achievements.
We also have more non-DLC heroes coming down the pipe too, which will be FREE for anyone that owns the game. On top of that we have longer term plans for even more content in the mountain, assuming the fans are hungry for it.
We’re sorry if this has caused disappointment for anyone and we certainly didn’t intend to lie or deceive any customers!
If I wouldn´t already own this game I would wait for all the DLC to be released before buying it. Now I will wait with playing instead.
A broken promise is always bad, but the reasoning here is just plain stupid.
What about adapting other books? Is it a lot of effort now that you have the engine, sounds, etc? Would it be DLC or new games?
I hope Warlock is successful enough to adapt further gamebooks this way, I would love to see Death Trap Dungeon remade, or Talisman of Death. Or a level editor would be awesome too!
Let me see.....
Personally I'm hoping for Balrum Axecleaver to eventually become available. Aspen Darkfire would help make the collection of golden oldies feel compleet. Did she end up getting replaced with Ellion G'Aarak? Ellion was one of the Myriador characters as well.
Yes, but that would have the drawback of only one possible character as the book is very specific in playing exactly this one titular creature.
