Message regarding upcoming DLC content
Hi all, the Tin Man Games devs here! We hope you're all enjoying Warlock.

We wanted to create and pin a thread specifically about our plans for upcoming DLC in light of the DLC thread earlier today. Find below the post we made in that thread (which has now been locked) and we will follow up with any questions or queries about DLC here.

We feel it’s really important to be completely transparent about this, so let’s start off with a copy and paste of the actual message that was sent out to Kickstarter backers:

Originally posted by Kickstarter Email:
Hi Warlock Kickstarter backers!

The game is out on Wednesday 31st August - we can't quite believe it!
If you're receiving this message it's because you backed at the Orc Guard Tier or above. Orc Guard stated the following:

+ THREE digital miniatures available on launch.
+ Miniatures will provide additional content and story.
+ These will be available to all players as paid DLC on launch.

as well as the $25k stretch goal:

Three (3) new adventurers available. Vignor Firestorm, Haldar Eriksson, Ophelia Lapwing will be added to the ‘Orc Guard’ tier and above ($50 AUD / $36 USD / £23 GBP / €32 EUR).

This means we promised 6 extra miniatures AT LAUNCH for backers. Sadly this is one promise we're going to have fall a little short on we're afraid. :(

For business reasons we've decided to hold off on introducing Paid DLC characters for Steam for a few months, so these six figurines sadly won't be available at launch. Sorry for not mentioning this sooner, but there was a bit of an oversight on when best to implement paid DLC in a new release, which we were not made aware of until recently. We have made the tough choice to hold these back and will stagger release both packs in two separate updates over the coming months.

Rest assured you backers will get these for free, along with a special bonus figurine!

The game will come with 12 heroes to start with, so hopefully more than enough to keep you all busy. We truly hope you enjoy your journey into Firetop Mountain on Wednesday.
If you have any comments or concerns be sure to drop us a message and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

As we said in the message to backers, it was a difficult decision to make regarding DLC, but we did this for a couple of reasons:

1) We talked to a lot of Steam game developers and we were advised NOT to launch a game with paid DLC as it would upset a lot of potential buyers of the game who felt they were not getting the whole game.

2) We reached a point a few weeks from launch where we could either choose to work on the DLC content or make the game more stable. At that point the game had some pretty serious bugs floating around that needed attention. The decision was made that it was more important to release the game with all those bugs squashed. We’re really pleased with that decision as release has been almost bug-free.

So what is the DLC exactly? What are we holding back?

Essentially the DLC is 6 extra characters. These will be released in two sets of three characters with each character having a new 3D figurine and a new quest, with new achievements.

We also have more non-DLC heroes coming down the pipe too, which will be FREE for anyone that owns the game. On top of that we have longer term plans for even more content in the mountain, assuming the fans are hungry for it.

We’re sorry if this has caused disappointment for anyone and we certainly didn’t intend to lie or deceive any customers!

Just to clarify point 2) a little more too. The upcoming DLC content is still in development. The decision was made to concentrate fixing last minute bugs in the core game rather than work on the DLC content.

Thank you for being forward about this, it really helps me know that when the time should come for me to purchase your game I'll know the time to do so.

Well well, where are the haters now that called me a liar abou this topic...?!

If I wouldn´t already own this game I would wait for all the DLC to be released before buying it. Now I will wait with playing instead.

A broken promise is always bad, but the reasoning here is just plain stupid.

How much would the DLC be priced? Say the game is $20 with 12 characters, would the DLC with 6 additional characters be priced $10? So the game would be $30 in total?

What about adapting other books? Is it a lot of effort now that you have the engine, sounds, etc? Would it be DLC or new games?

I knew about this already as a backer, and I can understand that it is more important to fix the last bugs before release instead of completing the DLC. After all, there is more than enough content already in the game, and I much prefer a stable game which other publishers do not deliver (Sims 3, Sims4 anyone?).

I hope Warlock is successful enough to adapt further gamebooks this way, I would love to see Death Trap Dungeon remade, or Talisman of Death. Or a level editor would be awesome too!

Let me see.....

Personally I'm hoping for Balrum Axecleaver to eventually become available. Aspen Darkfire would help make the collection of golden oldies feel compleet. Did she end up getting replaced with Ellion G'Aarak? Ellion was one of the Myriador characters as well.

Are there any plans for a wizardy character?

We'll be announcing the next collection of characters in a few weeks!

Creature of Havoc would be awesome to adapt to this style too.

Yes, but that would have the drawback of only one possible character as the book is very specific in playing exactly this one titular creature.

The Orc Cleric is sort of a spellcaster.

Sound cool. More story as Dlc is something i'd love to buy. The current concept if good but the exact same map for each hero can kill the surprise after a few runs.

I will be buying all future DLC for this game, I think this is a fantastic concept for a game and will be supporting your development team for the forseeable future. I have wanted a game like this for a long time, thanks for making it!

Thanks for the kind words meshuggah12345!
