There are some good places to get mods out there, the main ones being

Moddb EaW:
Moddb FoC:

On the filefront link, I am not sure if it lists both FoC and EaW mods, or just EaW. You will notice a link for FoC Mods, though, and that will take you to pages listing only FoC mods. There are two different ways to mod the game, Extraction Method and Installation Method. Some mods allow you to choose what Method you want to use, and you can download a .zip/.rar file to use with the "Extraction Method" or a .exe file, which sometimes come in .zip/.rar as well, for the "Installation Method". You have to be careful with the Installation Method, however, as some of the mods will install into your Program Files\Lucasarts - as they were scripted to install to the retail directory, though most of them should ask where you want to install them. With the installation method, there is also two different types. You will either have the .exe's that just auto-unpack the files for you, or you will have those that actually install the mod to your game.
Now, unless you want to play the mod all the time (or want to make a backup of your "Clean" installation of the game) then I would not recommend the installation method. Most people that want to play Vanilla and Several Mods will use the Extraction Method. If you do not know how to "extract", all you have to do is open up the .zip or .rar file, select the files you want to extract and either copy and paste them or drag them (dragging them will not delete them from the archive, so it is the easiest way to do it if you like having mutliple windows open.)
The place that you are going to put these files are in the "Mods" folder, which you must create yourself. It will go into the main game directory, for EaW that is common\Star Wars Empire at War\GameData, for FoC it is common\Star Wars Empire at War\corruption. Once you have your mod folder, extract the mod to the folder. All mods should be in their own folders within the mods folder. Once you have a mod in your mod folder, direct to the game in the Steam Client, right click it and go to properties. From here, go to Set Launch Options. If you are going to play a mod for EaW type in sweaw MODPATH=Mods/(name of mod folder), and for FoC swfoc MODPATH=Mods/(name of mod folder). Then you should be running the mod. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask.
