Version mismatch?
so a friend and I both have this on steam, we like to play mods but recently all games we started say version mismatch when we join each others games. We have the same version of the mods and it still does it. So we tried to do the normal FOC game and we have the same result, a version mismatch. I even copied my files into his steam directory so we had the EXACT SAME files but it still says version mismatch in mods and vanilla still.

please help us, this is one of our favorite strategy games and we dont know why its doing this, thanks

Did you copy the entire "Star Wars Empire at War" folder?

yup, and besides we both have the steam version, dosn't that mean that it should be the same version anyway?

Yes, it should. However, one file difference can make it a slightly different "version" a modded version. You are sure that your friend's was replaced with yours exactly? Did you delete his and dump yours in there, or overwrite?

all my games are on an external hard drive, I hooked it up to his computer and put it in the steam common folder, so I guess it was an overwrite. Should I have deleted it first then gave him mine? I told it to replace all of it

Yes, because simply replacing your files with his will not have eliminated any extraneous files that were left over causing the mismatch. If you have the exact same setup, there is no reason it should not work. Overwriting will only delete and replace the files that are common.

hmm still strange that we did not have the same files to begin with, the only thing different were our choice of mods, but they should not have affected the main game.

does it have anything to do with that we used to have CD versions of the game but then for differing reasons decided to get it through steam? like a registry error or something?

No, shouldn't. Tho they both use the same registry files. If ANYTHING was different in your data folders, then VM

alright, if we both verified the files would that fix it? (though it may break republic at war but that can be fixed) are you saying even if we have different mods in the data folders that arent even active (all we have are thrawns revenge, republic at war and old republic at war) then we still get a VM?

Those are probably in the "Mods" not Data folder. RaW is one of those that has to have AI in the Data folder, so while you may run it from mods you still have RaW files in your Data. Verifying might work... but It's probably just a best bet to rename his folder and copy yours in.

alright, I can do that. Although its strange we both have the same install of RAW too. wont see him again for a while though, hope it works. thanks for the help
