Is it possible to play this in Windows 8? If not any fixes
What the title says, can I play it right out of the box so to speak or do I need to download anything to help me play it on my windows 8 desktop?

If you got it on steam, no it should work. But, if you actually got the disk. You may need the RAM fixes and the patches.

I play it on a Windows 8 laptop, and I don't use any programs to make it work. Nor did I have to modify the game's .cfg files.

In short, Star Wars: Empire at War plays perfectly right out of the box.

EDIT: I should mention I use the Steam version.

Ah I see, see I have the game on disk, but I might as well buy the star wars collection, re-get the game. Thanks for the info ^_^

Ah, nice. A lot of good games in that collection (I own most of them already, so the deal's not so hot for me..)
(Jedi Outcast is personal favorite of mine)

I will offer one suggestion, since I'm fairly sure that Knights of the Old Republic 2 is included with that bundle: Make sure that you read through Steam's forum for it before you play that game, because I guarentee that you'll have an issue, if playing it on Windows 8.

They have the fix posted there, as well as a link to a mod that helps stabilize the game and restore some content that got cut from the final release. The game works fine, and is a blast to play, it just needs a quick fix-up to play.

You should check to see if your retail key can be added to your games library through the Activate Key option on Steam, I have added quite a few other older retail disc games this way.
