There are few series I love more than the Dark Knight series, but Mysteries of the Sith was always the one I put on the backburner, saved for a rainy day. So while I heaped praises upon Dark Forces II, I had no idea just how much better its expansion was.
Mysteries of the Sith is a great game in ever respect, even removed from the context of its series, or even of the Star Wars series as a whole. I had always viewed Dark Forces II as the bridge between Quake and Half-Life in terms of its structure and design, but really that honor is more suited to Mysteries of the Sith. It presents a world that feels believable and lived in (not an easy task in 1998), and conveys much of its narrative through visuals and gameplay with an elegance that few if any of its contemporaries can claim to match.
Like I said, this is a great game if ever there was one. It's a shooter that ranks high among others of its era, and it's certainly one of the best Star Wars games ever made.
