The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition

Won't Start
Title says it all. If I try launching the game, all I see is a black screen without any sound. Only way I can get out is by restarting my computer. I've tried various solutions that I've seen online to no avail, including:
-Running it in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode (when I do this, I get a white screen instead of a black one).
-Creating a settings.ini file in C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Roaming\LucasArts\The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition and fiddling with the resolution setting (I had to create the file because the folder is empty).
-Updating my sound and video card drivers.

I'm running Windows 8 64-bit on an i5-3570k and an AMD 7950 GPU. Any help would be appreciated.

Got it working. In case anyone wants to know, I have both an SSD and an HDD. I had originally installed the game on my HDD, but it appears to only work when it is installed on my SSD (where both my OS and Steam are installed).

So it has to be installed in the primary steam library? hmm. this may be something Valve can fix. I'll test.

I couldn't reproduce on Win7.

To save your SSD space you could use DirLinker[] to symlink C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps to a directory on another drive. The only issue with this method is Steam may claim there's not enough space, because it's unaware you're actually installing to a larger drive.

Thanks for checking that out. It's not a big deal for me to use SSD space for this game (it's only a gig and a half, so no big deal) but this issue only appears to occur for this game.
