OK - Tried the .ini, and still not able to play...

I have just bought both The Secret of Monkey Island and Le Chuck's Revenge in a fit of nostalgia and cannot use either thru STEAM which is where I bought them - I am using Win7 64 and have 12Gb onboard, with a Radion 5870 GFX card - am not getting beyond a flash of black and then nothing. I have tried a huge number of resolution options in .ini file and all to no avail - HELP please?

I also had it installed on an external hard drive and now i'm re-installing it on my main drive.
Is your instalation also different than c:/programFiles/Steam?

Hi - it still is - my STEAM directory is G: - but for some reason it all now works perfectly!
Previously, I created the .ini files and the folder described in the other threads, and they didn't work at all, but literally overnight a couple of days ago it all started working for me - both SOMI1 and 2...
I would love to say I know why, but I confess I'd be lying!
Can only suggest that you follow the instructions to create the .ini file and hope for the best...
Truly sorry that I haven't any better advice for you to follow.

...only thing I can think of is that I have my browser zoomed to 125% - have no idea if that has any relevence whatsoever, but is only difference in my system since I tried last...

I reinstalled the game to the default steam folder on C:\ and it worked without problems after that.

I'm using Win8.1 x64 with exact the same problematic. I used following solution:
Right click on my Sound Tab -> Playback Devices -> Select your actual Playback Device -> Configure -> Audio Channels: Stereo
The game doesn't seem to support 5.1 Audio.
