It's one of those old, challenging and nice gameplay games. No multiplayer unfortunaly but u can spend hours on single.

I personally disliked this both on the PS2 and PC version. I could see how somebody could like it, but if you are acustomed to modern games it is not for you.

I wanted to like this game. I tried to like this game. I can not like this game.

I remember playing this on my friend's PS2 a long while back, and I had great fun playing it. However I was younger then and anything with spaceships and colourful explosions was already a winner for me (reminded myself of Incoming[en.wikipedia.org] just there - ah, happy days) XD

Disappointing...
Since playing it on Steam, it was surprising for me to see how much of a disappointment it was; I wasn't expecting it to be brilliant or anything, but just a decent ride to kill some spare time. Nonetheless it was still disappointing.

Mediocre shoot 'em up...
Star Wars Starfighter is basically a mish-mash of repetitive space combat gameplay, mediocre graphics, a cliché-ridden story and awkward controls (the Y-axis is inverted by default and you apparently can't change this). If you're a truly dedicated die-hard fan of Star Wars - you can put this aside and just engage in exploring the Star Wars universe in loving arcade fashion. Also, if you like early Noughties 'nostalgia', warts and all, then yeah, you could well too have some fun playing it.

Only play it 'cause it's from my childhood, but it's not all doom and gloom...
The only reason I play it is because it's from my childhood, and trust me nothing can take that away from you, no matter how bad the game is: I just love the game and love playing it and nothing can change that. And, on a slightly positive note, the worlds are quite fun to explore. There are a couple of missions that will stick out as being 'more like it' as well.

Verdict: probably don't buy...
Basically - don't buy it expecting good space combat game. Expect a watered-down arcade space shooter that misses so many opportunties in gameplay, with the only universally notable positive asset being that it's set in the Star Wars universe. You might have some fun playing, but if you're uncertain about buying it, my advice is keep your money as you're not missing out.

The end.
Chances are - as previously said in this thread - it's not for you.

I want to emphasise that this isn't a 'stay-clear-of-this-rubbish-it-is-a-total-failure' game. It really isn't. It's just a mediocre game that you'll only really enjoy if you can put up with its downsides and fully appreciate its good points.

Hope that helps :D

Either way, remember...

Just picked it up, it's fun but it's not a game you'd want to 100% complete. Just play through the story misisons and normal and leave it at that, even hard is broken.

Trying to do the story and bonuses on hard is basically torture in that old school unfair kind of way designed to pad the game out with cheap difficulty rather than with engaging content.

I miss the old X-Wing vs. Tie-Fighter games. I wish they had continued that series. Those games were practically Star Wars space battle flight simulators. They could have become more deep and customizable/simlike over the years. I loved the Rogue Squadron game on the Nintendo 64 back in the day, but we haven't had much since then unfortunately. Space combat sims are kind of a dime-a-dozen these days, but mostly they suck and are too difficult (for me) or so shallow they are not worth playing.

I strongly reccomend it, just not for pc. Playstation 2 version is much better.

but if you like ground battles too, get Star Wars Battlefront 2.

When I was younger I played this to 100% and I would buy again to relive the memories.

Starfighter was an attempt to bring the appeal of Rogue Squadron to the Prequels. It didn't work. So no, not that good of a game. Rogue Squardon was better. Sadly you can only play Rogue Squardon 2 and 3 on Gamecube and Wii consoles.

My memories of this on xbox 1 overall were good. Nothing like rogue squadron at all, this is more single-serving missions like canyon run with the fighter, and bombing that pit. Many parts of the game were done well and it was overall fun.

Now, how I would receive it today, idk. I would like to know if it can support widescreen resolution, if so I'll probably pick it up, at a couple bucks.
