Game wont run under win7 64bit

Gday,

Loom was downloaded yesterday. Tried to play it today and steam comes up with game launching dialog then it disaperes then it reaperes then disaperes. It repeats this cycle quite a few times, at leat 8. Then it stops. I tried compatability mode and run as admin in which case it follows a similar pattern but in each repetition asks me if I will allow the program to modify hardrive files. Basicly I believe the program is trying to run and then crashing multiple times untill I deny it hardrive modification rights at which point it gives up.

Anyone familiar with this kind of thing know whats up.

To forstall questions:

Compatability modes have been tried
I have many many copies of .net frame work installed including 3.5 sp1 and 4 from all the games requiring specific versions for themselves.
The above also applies to directx naturally.
Windows 7 64bit Ultimate edition with a quad core and a nvidia gt240 graphics card
No error messages beyond the "this game is unavailible now" prompt when steam gives up on the loop.

The usual help is to verify local game content. Then, try starting Steam as administrator.

Download ScummVM (it's a free open source classic adventure game launcher for a ton of platforms) and choose Steam's Loom folder when adding it to the game list. I believe Steam's downloads use DOSBox to try to make it compatible, but the version packaged with many of the adventure games is out of date. So you could try to update the DOSBox files to the latest version as well if you don't want to use ScummVM.

most older games on steam require your steam path to be in your system variables, because most old games would have been installed into a very simple folder like C:\GAMES\LOOM\LOOM.EXE, so I'm guessing your system variables need tweakage.
