Terrible Port
The CD-ROM version of Loom offered here on Steam is absolute garbage. It's missing alternate puzzle solutions, dialogue, and art, and it's even been censored. If you want to play Loom, grab a copy of the Amiga version and play it with ScummVM.

What exactly is censored?

Well, a lot of stuff was cut (A LOT) but as far as straight up censorship, mostly blood and violence. There's also an entire scene of a ghost passing to the other side that's been cut out.

this version seemed fine to me

That might be because you haven't played the original. Tons of dialogue cuts across the board, lots of missing artwork (especially the closeups), cutscenes cut way short, etc.

They're absolutely right; there is a lot missing in this version of Loom.

Lots of things :( dialogs are shortened greatly! basically it takes away a lot of the gameplay, you can't hear the entire songs, they're always cut off for whatever reason

I had to get the SCUMM version because it was almost unbearable :(

Has there been any reason given why they shortened this version so much?

From what I know, the dialogue took up a lot of space on the disc, and they couldn't fit all of the different routes and solutions onto the audio track. As for the removal of portraits and the censorship of violence... who knows.

The portraits were removed becase they couldn't make the lips-synch with the CD sound.

Amiga is the most complete.

Well, it is a matter of taste, but my favorite is EGA. FM Towns has 256 colors, yes, but the picture is smaller there comparing to the original PC version.

There is a form of patch?

There is an official way of getting the FM towns version if you own the game on Steam.
Many of you may already know this, but I thought I'd post this here so that people looking for it can find it (even though this is also mentioned in the English Wikipedia article about Loom):
