Modo 901

Will there be Modo Indie 901? Or is the Indie version testing the waters for TF?

There will be a 901 version of Indie, yes. However it is unlikely that Indie will get updated to 901 right away, expect a few service packs to occur first for the full version of Modo before we see any 901 upgrades happening to Indie.

Whew I hope we get a free update to 901. Otherwise I really should have gone with the subscription instead of buying. I mean Indie 801 has only been out for a very short while. :)

Ugh and I must really spend more time with it. I had such big dreams when I bought it and yet have spent so little actual time with it.

I doubt the upgrade will be free for those of us that bought outright rather than subscribing, but I'd be more than happy if I was wrong. I'm thinking that they'll want to keep it inline with the offer they made to the full package purchasers: buy 801 now and get upgraded to 901 free, purchases before today qualify for upgrade pricing.

This is the second piece of software I've purchased only to have a new version come out shortly afterwards, the first one being Substance Designer.

I know the "old" version is still more than adequate, but I can't help but feel frustrated when this feels like it keeps happening.

I'll try to reserve judgement until they make an official announcement though.

It does not say anything about modo indie however. That said the improved tools look awesome.

is meshfusion really coming out for indie? some of the new modeling stuff looks good, like the circular thing. anything new with normal controls? or what about substance support for indie?

I for some reason can't believe mesh fusion would be in indie, but it would be awesome.

I think meshfusion will be there. The 901 reveal didn't show much to get excited about so meshfusion is actually the main reason for the upgrade.
Compare the release of maya lt 2016 with a totally revamped UI and major functionality with sculpting, modelling it looked more of an upgrade.

If 901 Indie really is a paid upgrade I'd be worried. I get that software takes time to create and everyone needs to make money, but Modo Steam Edition was completely abandoned and then replaced with Modo Indie just a few months ago. Now there's a 901 Indie? It'll definitely make me think twice before buying software again, and only go with the monthly subscription options.

There regularly are new versions of MODO, a new MODO is coming every year, typically some time about April. I can't see what's wrong with that, I certainly prefer the option to get new features every year, or skip a release if it's not interesting. 901 Full is scheduled for end of May, and 901 Indie seems to be coming quite some time later with several service packs before that.

In anycase I don't expect more limitations or features removed with 901 indie. Its already crippled to work only on one steam account.
