King's Bounty: Armored Princess

King's Bounty: Armored Princess

Am I just a scrub or is this actually quite a hard game?
I started as a mage if that's relevant.

It is not easy for sure, once you get proper spells and good strategy, know which fights to take, and what to avoid, you can be OK. I get 90% of games flawless on normal.
Google AP strategies and you will find some tips. Mage is really hard to start with if you don't run around the islands stealing maps and resources. I think I was level 6 with 100k before I even had my first non tutorial fight.

There are some troops you can lose and not have it be a big deal, but there are rewards for fights with no losses, so you kind of want to keep them alive, there are spells to help with that. Otherwise, look at some of the stategies, there is green dragon + invisiblity and haste, night time troll, and a few others that basically guarantee victory if you are really having trouble. There is a cheese way to win with almost every character type and army type.
I've been using the yellow dragon and its been a struggle, albeit a fun one. I'm at a real funky point where i'm having to look all over the place and get in some tough battles just to move forward as i've already cleared out everything I can find at the 'strong' mark...everything else is lethal or invincible...

Lethal fights aren't so deadly, but you have to play your cards really well. I used my dragon a TON with those fights. Summoned monsters via mystic egg and the onslaught attack have been priceless.

What I find most aggravating is the difficulty of obtaining troops. Troops are finite...which makes a notable difference in fighting tactifully.
I'm just playing through the early game with Mage on Hard difficulty now. It is pretty difficult. It makes a HUGE difference if you get the first couple of Grand Strategist medals as soon as possible - which means trying to win all/almost all battles with no losses on the first few islands. That includes the tutorial battles, btw (dismiss everything but Paladins and they are easy to ace). Use spells, use the dragon, (ab)use Inquisitors and Paladins for resurrection and you should be able to get at least the first two medals without too much trouble.

Talent choices are also important. I like to get lvl 2+ Chaos and Higher Magic as soon as possible, to bombard the enemy with potent Fireballs and Flame Arrows, but you can also pursue a more debuff-oriented strategy.

Lastly, the most important lesson of KB is that you want to pick up as much stuff as possible without picking a fight, as Viper said. It's a bit easier in AP than the other KB games because you always have a ship, so you can sail around each island looking for unguarded stuff.
sailed thru warrior, paladin was harder, mage, got to k-tahu, and was smacked down...and that was on easy!!!
I don't get it. On my screen, this game doesn't offer good combat spells to sell and doesn't have decent armies like dragon/paladin yet all the comments here say they're playing as Mage and got tonnes of Paladins/Dragons/etc.

Where the hell do you get them? I've gone through the first 5 islands (Up to Rusty Island/Verona).

Nobody sells Fireball scroll and my dragon is capped at 13 rage all the time.
should have found a paladin, by now, and spells are hit and miss, from game to game!!! you'll find a green dragon in the underground, next to the pirate who wants bowman, pirates and robbers!!! you'll find dragons on elon and montero!!! sometimes on the rest!!! spend your runes, otherwise your rage won't climb much (right side of princess panel)!!!
The game is very hard. I'm playing as mage on Hard difficulty and now I'm basically stuck with only 4 islands discovered because I can make no progress since I have nothing left to fight with, nothing weaker than red enemies (lethal or worse...). :sadpug:
