Rampage Knights F.A.Q.
Q: My character is always facing to the right and cannot turn left.
A: It's a feature of Kraken Idol, an item you have picked up. You get crab minions and you become stronger, but you can face only one direction when moving.

Q: Does the game supports DInput (Direct Input) controllers?
A: Yes, but the game may not recognize the controller until it is configured. To configure the controller start Steam's Big Picture mode, enter the settings menu and then the controller submenu. Here you should be able to configure the mapping of the controller buttons to "virtual" controller. Once it is configured the game should automatically pick the configuration from Steam (you don't have to start the game from the Big Picture mode).

Q: Does the game support coop for 3 or more players?
A: No. The game supports only local and online coop for 2 players.

Q: Does the game has matchmaking/game browser for online coop?
A: Yes, since version 1.5 the game has public lobby browser. You can choose to host public or private games. Public games are visible to all players and can be joined by anyone. Private games can be joined only by people from your friend list. To invite a friend or join friend's game click the join/invite button in Steam overlay (or use Invite player from the ingame menu).

Q: The online coop lags. What should I do?
A: The game uses Steam networking API for peer-to-peer communication between the host and the client. Lags can be caused by many things: temporary issue with your network, hiccup on the connection to the Steam servers, large pings between the host and the client, etc. We are currently investigating what is causing the lags some people are experiencing.

UPDATE: With 1.3 version we have rewritten the networking implementation to address this issue. The new online co-op should now be more stable and smoother. You can read more about the changes in the announcement
http://steamcommunity.com/games/314410/announcements/detail/69037267383584727

There is a new "Network rate" option available in the game. The option specifies how frequently the game sends packets between the host and the client. For example, if you are on wi-fi network and you see freezes or lags, you can try to set the network rate to medium. Slower network rates are less demanding on your connection but the movement of enemies and other player may seem more jerky.

I you are hosting the game, try letting your friend host the game instead and try joining him as a client.

The game can be lagging for performance reasons, during large battles hundreds of blood ground stains can be created which may cause lags on some computers. Try disable the blood stains to check if they have any impact on the lags. To disable blood stain, enter Options -> Video Settings and change "Blood" setting to either "Only Particles" or "Disabled".

Some people also reported that changing Steam's download regions in the Steam settings to the same region on both the host and the client helped with the lags. It is recommended to select the region that you are in or the one closest to you.

Lags can be also caused by NAT problems. Setting up port forwarding on a router helped some people with the lags and freezes.

NAT (Network address translation) is a method used by routers so you can have two or more computers behind a router sharing single IP address. The problem with NAT is that it can cause issues with peer to peer games when both players are behind a NAT.

When you start online co-op, Steam tries to create direct connection between both players by performing NAT punch-through. But this may sometime fail, in which case Steam starts forwarding networking communication between the players through Steam servers. This may cause various issues and lags.

If you are experiencing networking issues, it is recommended to set up forwarding of gaming-related and Steam ports on your router to help the game establish direct connection between the players. Steam has this guide Required Ports for Steam on which ports need to be opened on the router.

For Rampage Knights these ports are important:
UDP 3478
UDP 4379
UDP 4380
TCP/UDP 27000-27050

You can also find more info about troubleshooting networking issues in this Steam's support page Troubleshooting Network Connectivity

Q: Black screen is shown when the game starts and then it crashes with "Application has stopped working" message. What should I do?

This is probably an issue with graphics drivers. The game uses OpenGL for rendering and it requires OpenGL 2.1 or newer. Some laptops with graphics cards from Intel don't have OpenGL drivers installed by default. Try checking if you have graphics drivers up to date. Also in Steam client there is "Check for Video Drivers update" in the main menu.

This can be also an issue with default fullscreen mode. You can try this to start the game in windowed mode: Enter your Documents, there should be Rampage Knights directory with "game_config.txt" file in it. On Mac, the file is located in "~/Library/Application Support/Rampage Knights" directory.
Adding this line
system::window_mode = "0"
to the end of the file should force the game to start in windowed mode.
If the windowed mode will work, you can try setting the "Windowed (fullscreen) video mode in the settings, which is "safer" fullscreen mode.

Q: I already finished the game. Will there be more? Are you planing any updates? DLCs?
A: We plan to have some small update soon, with fixes and small improvements according to feedback we are getting right now. Later this year we'd like to have big content upgrade with more items, enemies, special rooms and new features expanding the game. All gameplay related content will be free. If we decide to make DLC for money, it will probably be some extra faces and heads. Just for people, who care about this stuff and would want to support Rake in Grass some more.

Q: How do I report a crash?
A: Write down the crash error message (or just take a screenshot of it) and post it on this forum or send it to us via email (see below). If possible send us also the game's log file. The log file contains more details about the crash and allows us to fix the crash more easily.
On Windows the log file is located in Documents\Rampage Knights directory, there should be "game_log.txt" file. On Mac the file is located in "~/Library/Application Support/Rampage Knights" directory. You can send it to us via email to

Regarding match-making and lobby system;
If you go to the Community Hub for the game, and click Group Chat, from there you can find and join somebody's game without having to friend them individually.
This only becomes useful if more people start using it though.

Hi, i have a question , it says that supports the legacy DInput but that means it's fully compatible with standard XInput right? so no need to configure the mapping of buttons, for example Xbox 360 Controller or logitech F710 like mine !

Yes, xinput controllers should work as is, no extra configuration is needed. We use Xbox 360 controllers in our team.

Hi, I just wanted to ask if 4 player would ever become a thing?
boovie  [developer] Oct 19, 2015 @ 1:15pm
Sadly no, we don't plan adding support for 3 or more players.

Why not?
I've seen a ton of people complaining that it's only two player co-op, and about the fact that there is no matchmaking feature, seems like a rather simple request...

Originally we planned co-op for 4 players but after our indiegogo campaign failed we had to strip some features to be able to finish the game. Implementing co-op for 3 or more players is much harder than co-op for 2 players for both technical and gameplay reasons. So we fully focused on 2 players co-op only. Adding more than 3 players now would require to rewrite huge parts of the networking implementation and also making changes to the gameplay (larger rooms etc). We would rather focusing on adding more content to the game.
But we are planning to add public lobbies/matchmaking to the game.

I dont find this so bad, but a big reason that this is getting bad reviews is a part of how short the ngame is, I gave this game a good review, but still mentioned that.

Hi just curious do you guys have any plan for bundling this game? Thanks
boovie  [developer] May 10, 2016 @ 1:29pm
Maybe sometime in the future, but currently we are trying to avoid adding Rampage Knights to bundles. Sites offering game bundles with several games are not really worth for developers, unless it is something like humble bundle.

Is it hard to get bundled in HB? I would like to buy that bundle if it includes Rampage Knights and I am sure lots of people will!
boovie  [developer] May 11, 2016 @ 8:24am
Yes it is not easy to get to HB from what I know.
