Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

Do you think the "Microsoft Flight" engine could be the new DTG FSX on steroids?
"Microsoft Flight" engine - www.microsoft.com/games/flight - looks really good but Microsoft never really finished it... So DTG could have acquired it and go with it.

Do you think that could be that engine?

Either way, I can't wait to see the new DTG flight simulator but until then I am having a blast with FSX Steam.

The video looks good, but it makes me wonder how much of it is art vs. reality. System specs say a dual core CPU and a 512Mb video card? Really?

FSX-SE has been a very satisfying experience for me, too.

Aimee said the DTG sim is scheduled for release next year. My anticipation is quite tangible.

naw, MS Flight still uses DX9
it was a good looking sim tho, too bad MS didnt have the foresite to see how interested the community was to the Flight sim franchise. We just dont want to be DLC'd to derath, when we have something like FSX, we are now spoiled...Its gonna take something with a lot of forethought and capabilities for any game studio to keep us happy...
keep in mind this my my own opinion, and you may agree or disagree with it

Don't be fooled, the game was garbage.

And I do mean "game." The dropping of "Simulator" from the title wasn't a coincidence.
There were a lot of good things about MS Flight, and some bad. Perhaps the worst was that it was closed to third party development so any extra content needed to be delivered by MS. They were just not geared up to provide a steady stream of new DLC. Many of the aircraft were delivered without cockpits. It never covered the world and it lacked ATC and AI.

As a flight simulator engine it was an improvement over FSX and its origins were in FSX - there is actually a toolkit that converts FSX scenery to work with Flight.

As a GA VFR sim it had a lot of potential. The team who produced it (many of whom I know) were dedicated and commited to it. However it seems that the expectations of the business managers was not met and it got canned very quickly

We do indeed have a global licensing deal with Microsoft, granting us the rights to develop and publish all-new flight products based on Microsoft’s genre-defining flight technology.

Martin, thank you for the straight answer - I find it very cool that you are planing to develop a new sim, based on MSFS. It goes without saying that MSFS was and is the most successful franchise ever, and the MSFS system is a great one. If you can maintain the soul of the simulator, you will win thousands, if not millions of fans out there.
Dirext is very limited on autogen density fi OpenGL
I thought Flight was still in development?
flight was abandoned by MS years ago...
the core of the sim was the hawaaiian islands and you had i think 2 planes, then each additional aircraft and airspace would have cost a good deal of money.
I think they saw the addons for FSX, and said, hey, thats a great idea, lets provide a core sim, with limited aircraft and goegraphical location, then sell each addon for $50 or what ever nonsense....they got greedy...
I for one will purchase enhancements and additional aircraft, but not entire regions that are not included in the core of the sim...for my taste it was too arcadish and lacked what I felt was important, community support
I did think MS Flight looked good, so maybe there is some hope.

In my opinion, "Flight" was a good example of what we referred to in Economics as "Idiocracy" at work. How could a company that had won the amassed loyalty of so many flight simulation enthusiasts around the world lose it in a *wisp* of a breeze?
(In Mr. Trebek's voice) Answer: "What is, 'Out of touch with the market that put them there in the first place.'"
have to agree with you APUtech, I have long said that MS cut their own throats concerning the FS franchise...The lack of foresight was and to this day still is astounding
keep in mind this is my opinion only....

Yes but, does it mean you will use the Flight engine? (being the latest and most optimized engine by Microsoft regarding flight simulators?)
