Giving Nations to Demo Players
Don't do it, please. Some of us shelled out to support this game and development, and I feel like giving away nations to demo players on request is a big middle finger to those of us that put in time and money into the game, and devaluing our purchase. If they /really/ want to participate without paying they can join a nation like they're supposed to.

I have no intention to remove the nation limitations demo players have, if anything the demo is a bit too expansive at the moment. Just out of curiosity what made you think I was going to and prompted this post?
Certain admins have been giving away nation leadership on request. And I do actually agree that the demo is a little too 'full'.

Pretty sure I am the only admin who does this. When I started doing this, most nations were not exactly a welcoming place. Demo users would be asking for days for a nation to join just so they could protect their ship. So giving Demo users a nation of their own gave at least a safe zone (capitol) to use and stay around longer than the 30 minutes they were griefed while not having any idea what they were doing.

What Dahl says is correct as obviously in a PVP setting and when you have valuables on the line it can be a bit of a trouble to invite in particular demo players who may be spies on alternative accounts.

That said I do agree with you Canon and we'll make it a rule from now on the Community Servers(the special green servers on the list that allow demo players in) can't create Nations for demo players to inherit leadership from.

Also. =) I will stop doing it in light of this post and as you said the demo does already come pretty heavily stocked for a demo.

It was intended just to help retain people since the learning curve is so steep and as Demo they still could not enter nation owned systems, join non community servers, or create items.. so I guess part of me hoped that maybe this one perk would aid them in wanting to make the purchase when they could. I know most of the player base is younger and thus cost can sadly be a problem for them until birthday/holiday gifts roll around.

I do apologize if you or other full paying users felt slighted by this. Was not the intention ever.

And hopefully since you say, 'they can join a nation like they're supposed to' that means you are willing to accept demo's into your own nation.
My only criteria for membership is good grammar. When I find a demo player with good grammar I will accept them (good luck with /that/ one :P).

Learning curve isn't that steep, I had the basic gameplay, crafting, hypothetical combat, and the beginnings of a base nailed down in four days- and then it got griefed to hell, so I rebuilt on day five.

And that got griefed immediately after I left. So I quit the game for a couple months. Now I'm back and bought a copy to create a nation just so I have that emergency reserve option alway in hand and don't have to hide everything like a fall-maddened squirrel.

I almost didn't come back after I got Space Engineers but even though it promises a lot more than Sky Nations, SN has a solid core gameplay and multiplayer with a simple-but-complex system that hits my gaming notes almost entirelly in the right combinations.

Like Canon says, grammar is primary qualifier that determines who I give the time of day to. It's not that hard, you really just have to consistently place yourself just above 1337h4x. The second qualifier is preferences for building-over-bashing with a healthy love of bashing when bashing is necessary. Creative-types annoy me to no end, but so do Shooter-types.

Just because it wasn't for you, is not the case for all.
I think in the last several months its also gotten a lot better and the addition of the Hints (H) helped. At least I see less people asking "how/why" than I use to when watching from above. =) But still with those who's primary language is not English and those who are younger, the curve seemed a lot harder. I based my statement on what people have said to me about their own experience of hardships and understanding (or lack of).

Ah, that and I've played minecraft and other voxel-based games before, so I guess I've had a lot of training compared to somebody just jumping into the genre. You're right.
