Fancy Skulls

Fancy Skulls

Suggestions to the dev.

I recently purchased fancy skulls. and while I have been enjoying the game quite a lot, I do have some suggestions on how the game could be improved.

1) This is probably the most important one, for me at least; and that is the weapon limit. My biggest problem with the game is that you are limited to carrying one weapon that isn't the revolver. While this does force you to make some tough choices, limiting the player to two weapons+ the revolver would keep those choices in the game whilst adding more combat variety.

2) Sound assets. The gun-play is fairly satisfying in my experience due to good visual feedback, and though this is fairly vague, the sound assets on the guns lack "punch". They sound somewhat tinny, meaning the combat isn't quite on the level that it could be on.

3) Music. There is very little music and ambient sound, so some decent exploration and combat music would be nice, as the lack of it makes the combat fell somewhat dull, and the exploration less exciting and atmospheric.

4) Progression. I think the permanent progression is fine, I like that you don't have to unlock half the items before they appear in game. However, I do feel that the progression during a run could be sped up a little, as in making items slightly more common, as it would distinguish each run a bit more.

I have no idea if the developer will even see this, but it is, of course, important that the developer of an early access game listens to community feedback, but it is even more important that we give that feedback. So if any of the above suggestions could be acted upon, I think it would improve the game immensely.

Thank you for your feedback!
Actually, initially you was able to carry 4 weapons, but it felt a bit redundant. But I will think about your suggestion.
I have plans on improving sound design and adding some music too.
Cool, thanks for responding.

You can already rebind controls in the settings menu.
I noticed that the music would (kind of abruptly) change/reset when you closed the inventory?
I really like the one additional weapon limit. That is to say, I think being able to carry more than two weapons would detract from the gameplay. It might be interesting if players were permitted to switch out their revolver and have two weapons which could run out of ammo rather than the guarantee of a revolver that shoots forever (with reloads, provided the no reload perk hasn't been purchased). Alternatively, you could let the revolver be switched out like any other weapon but change it so it has a finite supply of ammunition. As for the other suggestions, it never occurred to me during gameplay that the weapons sounded tinny but better weapon sounds can have a significant influence on a player's sense of exciting/fulfilling gunplay. As for music, if you decide to add more please keep it on the subtle, ambient side. This game definitely doesn't need a dance track. The only changes in progression of equipment I might suggest would be the possibility/frequency (I've never seen it happen) of weapons coming from locked chests. With all that being said, I've been absolutely thrilled with this game and would love to sing its praises to a developer and/or offer further suggestions as to how it might be made even greater.

P.S. Ray Gun should be stronger but more rare than other weapons.
P.P.S. I love your game, thank you.
P.P.P.S. I should have just made a new thread.

thank you for your kind words ^_^
weapons can be found in chests. chance is 40% if you haven't found weapon yet, or 20% if you have found one.
yeah, I thought about making it possible to switch out the revolver, I will think about it some more. I don't like the idea of player running out of ammo though. on the other hand, if player makes that choice they kind of should be ready for this outcome. still, feels wierd. maybe slow ammo regeneration up to small amount for primary weapon is the solution.
If you let it regenerate, that's just going to equate to players idling while they wait for their ammo to replenish. Here's a few ideas off the top of my head:
>Revolver becomes switchable, but when you aren't carrying one they can appear in chests. Revolver has a base amount of ammo, more from the start and less if you pick it up from chests. If you exhaust your ammo, it will slowly generate ammo but no more than the maximum amount held in the gun, so six bullets given no upgrades are applied. In my opinion the slower it regenerates the better. Keep this game hard, please!
>Switchable revolver with finite ammo supply, no regeneration but you start with a ton of ammo, enough to last at least most of the game. If you switch it for another weapon, you can decide whether or not it appears in chests and with how much ammo. I kind of like the idea of it not reappearing but that's your call. Either way, this would make the revolver an interesting tactical option for players.
>Switchable revolver that starts with however much ammo but perks can be purchased from the store to give it unlimited ammo for a relatively high price.
>Switchable revolver, tons of ammo from the start but it doesn't appear in chests and ammo for it never drops. A good shot can make it through the game with it but people will typically be forced to trade it out eventually.

This is just the first stuff that comes to my mind, please feel free to send me a friend request if you feel like talking over some more ideas.

Again, I love your game. Wish I had more time to play it!
i am against regeneration, and possibility of giving up revolver. it is good as it is.

i also like eery attitude of game about sound and non existant music. it feels nice. yeah it would be better if u find some best soundtrack ever, but on average i guess i would like the current version better.

my only suggestion would be decreasing the frequency of challenge rooms in earlier floors.
I like the ambient music as it is. It creates a certain eery and weird atmosphere that fits the general game style (environments and enemies).

Being a lefty, I like to rebind WASD to arrow keys. Unfortunately, either I am missing something or rebinding WS to arrow keys does NOT work. In fact, rebinding those to anything do not work... or am I blind?
