Slowdown fix for laptops

Probably is in another topic somewhere, but anyway here you go. Just extract the contents to steam/steamapps/common/resident evil remastered.

Yeah thanks for this. The other topic was locked and ruined by childish behavior from some users.
This fix really works for many users below those "minimum" requirements.

Quick explanation of the fix: it simply unlocks the fixed 1920x1440 resolution of the game by design. The game is rendered at this internal resolution regardless of what resolution you try to put in the config.ini. This is the main cause of the slowndown/desync problem. Use this patch to unlock this resolution to a lower one.

To complete, the explanation about how the port worked in the old thread was very nice. I copy/paste it here for the sake of knowledge:

Originaly posted by atomos:

The games background scenes are all rendered, by force, to 1920x1440. For one, this is not at all something that should have been hard for them to alter. The call made to create the background textures is EASILY adjustable based on the resolution selection of the user. (This is exactly what this patch in this thread does. It alters the creation size of the background texture.)

Next, CAPCOM is making use of a Direct3D API call 'CreateQuery' in an over-realistic manner. You can read more into what this function does here:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb174360(v=vs.85).aspx

This function is being called EVERY single frame. It has a large effect on the games performance on lower-end systems that could be easily ignored. Again, this is also something the patch in this thread fixes by removing the call to this function altogether.

Next, there is little to no texture / object caching at all. Simple usage of the systems RAM could beef up performance by not constantly reading the games data files. Especially when they are packed/protected with in-house file types that have to be parsed, read, and handled.

Every time you change camera angles in the game, the game reads the .arc file containing the games background images. (There are 3 to be exact for every scene.) That means the game is doing the following, EVERY single time you change cameras:
- Open the .arc file containing the needed files.
- Decode / read the .arc file format.
- Pull the needed file data from the .arc file.
- Decode the file data as it is compressed.
- Load the file / textures into the game memory.
- Process the textures.

Instead of caching all possible data for the single room, it is hot-loaded on the fly as you play. CAPCOM could make full use of the door scenes to load and precache data for connecting rooms the current one you are in to help lower the file I/O this game does rather then constantly hot-loading every single needed asset.

If I've got a 1440p monitor, what would be the best settings to get the native background render? Can I set the game to 2560x1440 and do classic mode to get the 1920x1440 image?

Basically, is there a mod or some settings so I can render the game without any scaling?

How am I supposed to know that's safe to use? That can either be a scam trying to hijack my account or it's not and I get banned from steam for using a file that shouldn't be in there. It's a Lose/Lose situation and it'd rather not leave it to chance.

I want video proof of someone downloading the file, scanning it to see if it's safe, run the game without the file, exit the game, input the file, run the game with the file. I'd like to see this done before I click on any links. Sorry, but I sincerely do not trust this.

You can't know if it's safe or if it'll get you banned since it's not from an official source.
The only way to find out, it's to do it on your own risk. As everyone here implies.

I can understand that. I almost didn't do it either and after I eventually did I ran a full antivirus/spyware-search of my system. But it turned out to be what it purported to be - a patch that improved performance considerably.

Personally, I've been using this patch myself for the last few weeks. I can assure you this is not a scam. I have over 500 games, not to mention I've completed every achievement in Resident Evil Remastered. There are a few other topics with this link actually, but they're not easy to find because the topics never tell you straight out that there's a fix inside. That's why I made this one.

i've been passing this around for weeks and hundreds of people have used it. it's safe it works. there are countless people here who will tell you the same thing.

Scanning files? People still do that?

Security tips:

1) Do not use an administrator account. Create a normal account and use that one. If you're on a desktop, you don't even need passwords -- unless you don't trust the people you live with.

2) Given you're now a normal user, be very skeptical about running .exe files as administrator unless you absolutely trust the source or they're signed. If you're a normal user, however, you don't have to worry about running them even if they're malicious, because access control policies would never allow them to harm your system.

3) Run Steam as that regular user and all your games will be run as a normal user.

4) Protect your personal files by backing them up and/or encrypting them.

This patch does not contain an .exe file -- just a .dll that you can download elsewhere from official sources, which could only be harmful if a malicious .exe (run as administrator) linked to it.

You say there's an official source you can download it...? Where is this official source, exactly? I'm not taking any risks, no offense.

^ Risk about what ? I don't think you understand that Capcom won't give a damn about. They actually COMPLETELY shut up about the issue.

My guess is that they based at least 75/80% of this Remaster "eyes candy effects" on the resolution lock, the rest being ( very ? ) minor improvisations. So either you take the risk, either you are NOT going to play this game.

The patch is safe already. SAFE. No cracks, no malware, no virus. Mods are installed on other steam games and nobody is banned or anything. Get it and enjoy.

I Have 7 hours of game play registered and all i done in those 7 hours was try to get the game up and running . I can assure you this fix is genuine . The people at steam have sat back and watched everyone struggling to get this game up and running and done nothing . You would think after taking our money for this download they would step it up and try to get things sorted . If it was not for the great people on this forum i would still be trying ! . While i am here does anyone know how to get rid of those 7 dead hours !!

It isn't Steams responsibilty to fix CAPCOM's game. Be glad you got a fix.
STEVEDAW249 17 Feb, 2015 @ 2:42pm
It was steam i paid the money for the download . I should not be glad i got the FIX , I should not have needed the FIX !!! And the people that are giving the FIX are getting BANNED . If i was told i would need a FIX i would not have paid for the faulty goods . Are you for real!!

The "fix" isn't really required. I play the game perfectly without it. The games reviews show that most can play the game perfectly without it. It is mostly people with laptops that need it. And laptops are mentioned in the system requirements as being not supported. The goods are not faulty.

Steam is not responsible for Capcom's game. Capcom is. The people that got the ban got it because they provided a link to some type of warez site...not because of the patch itself. Steam gets a cut from the sale just like any store, not everything you paid. Gamestop won't troubleshoot games for you either.
