I want to start this review by saying to Digitalmindsoft, thank you! You have set the bar high for other RTS games to follow suit. This game is honestly one of my favorite RTS games so far. I have streamed this over on Twitch and considering my community are used to me playing games from my Partners over at Digital Extremes & Ubisoft, Call To Arms is something which my community are frequently requesting more of on my channel/platforms.

To those of you like myself who haven't heard of Call To Arms before, let me tell you what to expect. The graphics & environments are beautifully rich in detail. The battlefield can turn tides quickly, if like me, you sometimes fail pay attention. The game offers a range of numerous factions and units at your disposal. In terms of "replay" value, I have found Call To Arms offers a online and offline skirmish mode. This is something I was really hoping for, as sometimes during my down time from content creation, I like to load up and if not playing through the many campaigns on offer, I can go to an offline skirmish and set something up with ease. I love playing offline skirmishes and just having that option, is really appreciated.

I'm new to PC gaming and as someone who has spent majority of my gaming life on console, Call To Arms is the first RTS I had the privilege of purchasing/playing here on Steam.

What made me purchase Call To Arms?

Honestly, one of the main reasons is the first person/ unit control option. Until coming across this game, I thought RTS games where just build base/units and attack opposition. The fact that any of your units on the field can be played and not just commanded to take positions, for me, not just adds something new to the RTS formula, but shows what an RTS can be if approached with fresh eyes and open minds. For those wondering YES, you can switch between 1st & 3rd person perspective. As someone who used to hate 1st Person point of view in games growing up (now I dont mind 1st person), this game offers the option to switch between both.

This leads me onto my next point. I'm very presently surprised that when you are playing as a soldier or rolling through the streets as a Tank, the quality of the environment DOESN'T downgrade. If anything you can just really see how much time and effort the Devs over at DigitalMindSoft put into this franchise. The buildings can be explored and if you want to level the environment, buildings can be decimated as well. I have found that shooting holes through buildings to help clear the way for your infantry, really adds to the dynamics of this game. Some RTS games don't have environments which can be destroyed. Having this option really opens up the possibilities, as your vehicles aren't forced into a choke point trying to push through enemy lines, instead, destroying building walls or shooting through them entirely really opens up strategic planning and execution for your operations whilst playing this game.

I haven't been able to put many hours into Call To Arms, or at least as much as I want, because I am very busy with content creation. However, I have found that the ONLY issue I have when I have a spare hour or so, and this is my only negative about the franchise, is which Call To Arms do I play today? Is it this OR is it Call To Arms: Gates of Hell - Ostfront? Jokes aside, DigtialMindSoft, I am not sure if you are carrying on the Call To Arms Franchise? I did purchase a lot of your games in the steam sale, so you have gained another loyal fan here, but please, please bring us more of this. I have found that I think about this game a lot when I am just day dreaming about which of your games to play when I get a break and I really want to see another Call To Arms Game if not any further DLC for Ostfront.

To anyone reading this who may be on the fence about purchasing, trust me just do it or like me wait for a Steam sale to try it out. I have tried it out, and I am confident in this franchise to trust their next installment IF they have one.

Runs like a dead hooker tied to a lawn mower, feels like a 2009 ubisoft game UI-wise, plays decently.

7/10 - It's ok.

This is a perfect example of when a smaller game is just way more fun than the bigger games. This is a nice balance between tactical RTS and just flat out fun.
