open the library, right click on dod, go to properties, go to launch options, and then put "-w 800 -h 600" or something like that. maybe -width and -height if it doesn't work, i can't remember

Try that, only instead of "-w 800 -h 600" do "-w (Screen width) -h (Screen highth)"

Hey Cogajon .. i will attempt your advice ...

... i usually run at 1920 x 1080 ... but just for something to do i tried another screen resolution in the game console ... and durnit i havent being able to get itno it to play ever since ...

well, "-w 800 -h 600" in the LAUNCH OPTIONS like I described, will change your res to 800x600, so I don't know why it wouldn't work. you can try "-w 1920 -h 1080" for your widescreen resolution? if that doesn't work reinstalling dod might reset the res.

Well i did the launch options in various different options...didnt do a thing whatsoever to chage the resolution.... i might have to completely uninstall steam and reinstall my games...

... i really likr DOD ...better the DOD source....

...no wonder people are fewer playing DOD .... the dang steam client wont accept the launch options ...

..however...was wondering if maybe my Graphics Card was part of the problem

....NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M

Hey MainMan,

Have a look at this document that I typed up quite some time ago -> http://jasonwilliams400com.startlogic.com/snor/weeds/Day_of_Defeat/Documentation/GoldSource_Engine_Game_Graphics_Modes.txt .

That might just help with your problem with resetting the screen resolution so that you can then access the options menu.

If all else fails (or if you have problems understanding the info in that document), simply DELETE the following registry key (mentioned in that document):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Half-Life\Settings

...that *should* completely reset the video options for DoD (as well as all of your other GoldSource games).

That is a known bug with many of the GoldSource games, and isn't related to graphics options. Also, note that error message is completely harmless.

That being said, if you're like me and it drives you nutz <grin>, check this:

If all else fails, you don't have to completely uninstall Steam. Simply go to your Steam Library and right-click on DoD. Select Delete Local Content, then re-install DoD.

Step-son having issues with video showing only in a small box while the rest of the screen being blank. Will try said fixes above and edit this post with results.

I uninstalled DoD from Steam library and also deleted DoD folder from within Steam on C: drive.
Reinstalled and now it works. However, cannot change resolution from default or else it happens again so I just leave it as installed and it's playable.
