Linux system requirements +10 times higher !?
When this game was released required this minimun system requirements:
Processor: 450Mhz
Memory: 64MB
Graphics card: Any 3D accelerated graphics card

Today, the system requirement are:
Processor: Dual Core 2.8Ghz --> 12 times faster
Memory: 1GB --> 16 times more memory
Graphics card: more or less modern graphics card --> lets say 10 times better

How the F%&K is this possible??? Whatever the official explanation is about some code refactoring I don't buy it. If you make a change to a software that requires more than 10 times better hardware to do the same, you are an incompetent.

I bought this game hoping that it would run smooth in an e-350 laptop as it is a 10 years old game and I cannot play it because it runs very slow !!! WTF??

Maybe you're playing DoD Source and not DoD?

This is what it says on the store page for DoD.
"Minimum: 500 mhz processor, 96mb ram, 16mb video card, Windows XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Recommended: 800 mhz processor, 128mb ram, 32mb+ video card, Windows XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection"

And DoDS says.
"Minimum: 1.7 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, DirectX® 8.1 level Graphics Card (Requires support for SSE), Windows® 7 (32/64-bit)/Vista/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Recommended: Pentium 4 processor (3.0GHz, or better), 1GB RAM, DirectX® 9 level Graphics Card, Windows® 7 (32/64-bit)/Vista/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection"

I am playing DoD, not source, source wouldnt even run as I tied CS:Source and it has a lot of lag input.

I am looking into this page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/30/?snr=1_7_15__13 and the GNU/Linux requirements. Independently of the OS you are using the difference can't be more than 10 times!!

Actually I'd say that I have a slightly better performance playing ET:QuakeWars Demo (2011) than Day of Defeat (2003). At least I don't have framedrops.

BTW, this laptop has 2 years and it has 5 times the initial system requirements for DoD.

I think this massive performance drop should be considered a high priority bug.

I didn't know that the linux requirements were that much higher than windows. I would have never thought that it would be that far off.

I posted what i did because i was thinking that you were on windows and not linux sorry.

No problem. I am angry with Valve because of that. Is non-sense to have better performance in games like Doom 3 or ET:QuakeWars (both use OpenGL) than in DoD.

Actually I changed the topic so any other Linux user think twice before buying this game.
