There have been rumors to evolve GL over the past year or so, but nothing concrete. Valve has yet to make an official announcement, meaning that this rumor may or may not come to pass. But even then, the rumor was to improve GL and make it more open and easier to get games onto Steam, not remove it entirely.

In what ways GL would improve, and what (if any curation) would this entail is anybody's guess, just as when (and if) this will ever happen is anybody's guess.

I guess that means we can keep looking forward towards Grass, Rock, and Water simulator. Maybe some fart simulators too.

As far as joke games go, a fart simulator would be pretty awesome... and probably more playable than a lot of other simulators go.

Bonus: Add a sharting mini-game and it'll be golden.

Check out these articles. They're extremely interesting in regards to Greenlight and Valve's plans for devs.

Oh goodness... It sounds like they are planning to get rid of greenlight so even smaller developers can get their content in.

So we will be looking at a lot more Air Controls soon.

That's my concern as well. I'm hoping that Valve learned from Greenlight and doesn't repeat the same mistake with their new plans. I'm glad that Valve wants to give the smaller guys a chance, but there still has to be a strict standard for games released on Steam, y'know? Either way, we'll find out soon enough.

Still, before those stricter standards ever come into place we will have plenty of hilarious youtube videos of these terrible games.

The thing is, that's not set in stone. That's just Gabe Newell talking off the top of his head of what he might like to happen eventually at some unspecified date in the future. It may or may not actually happen and if it does it will be on Valve Time.

Those articles are from about 6 months ago and he's said similar things a year and a half ago http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/186168/Gabe_Newells_vision_for_Steam_More_choice_more_democracy_less_Greenlight.php

FWIW I do think think they are moving in that direction with some of the upcoming changes like content curators and personalized from pages but Valve is slow to do most things so who knows how long it will all take.
