Request - Save & Exit
Enjoying the game but was disappointed to see there is no option to save & exit.
I think this should be a must-have feature for a game.

It's not good to start up a game and feel like you HAVE to play until you either win or die.

For example, something comes up and you have to leave the PC, or you just want a break and come back to your game later.

I read in another thread that there is some item that lets you save after progressing a certain amount, but the option to save and exit when you need to is very much needed IMO.

Maybe a temp-save which gets deleted once it loads?

I do like the game but this is putting me off from playing it at all now...

I've been leaving it paused in the background but it judders and stutters for a few seconds if it has been left a while. It also uses a chunk of CPU and continues to play music when lacking focus, as such I've had to turn the music off :(

i thought the same, but saw what the creator did for us: you get stones by killing bosses. When you start a new game, you can select stones you got (on the bottom of the screen where you can upgrade stuff before the game actually starts). depending on which stone you selected (or none) you start in a new world, completely random, but you have some or a lot planets unlocked or "freed", depending on the stone.

the more to the right are the more "advanced" stones. if you simply want to play trough, pick the most right stone and play until you got another one, you can quit after.

if you want to go for a rly high highscore you have to start in a blank universe, if you play trough the game the first time, do as you please i would say

I just replied in that other thread I believe.

Hundsmann thats really not the point... if Im playing for ten minutes, cultivated a couple of planets, and feeling really happy with the random verse I got given, then suddenly I get called away(constant for me), that... thats the pits right there.

I get and understand how the stones work, I just need a game to give me the freedom to up and go whenever, and tbh, I feel almost all games should give that kind of accessibility(second DVD's or Netflix demand I view everything at once is NEVER because no one alive would accept it).

This is a cute fun game, which has an arbitrary rule for no real reason. I agree with the OP that it has put me off playing on a few occassions. This is a common issue among people in my age demo at least.

I really appreciate the feedback on this, but, yeah it was really meant as a 'session' game... like how long can you get in one playthrough, etc.

I do understand the desire for a quicksave and there was even one there at one point in Early Access, but because of some of the features in the game, it was very unstable and caused infinite bugs that i just didnt have time to spend on fixing. ultimately it came down to: do i work on a save feature for another 3-4 months, rewriting a bunch of stuff already done, or do I use that time to add more enemies, bosses, storyline, artifacts, etc. and come up with an alternative way to continue (the stones). "More content" won out.

If the game sells incredibly well and I can literally afford to pay my bills while working on the game more, then of course Ill add more stuff like a save feature, etc. but im a 1-man team when it comes to the programming, so i had to make compromises on features.

I think you'd feel a lot more ripped off if the game had a save feature, but a bunch less content :D I hope you understand!

in my opinion the given exitpoints are given. i understand if someone does not like them, but they are present und you can kinda jump into the game at an even point too.

i also understand if you have sometimes only 10 minutes on your hands and have to leave the pc or shut it down in that case, but then this game is not appropriate for the short playsession you have.

How long (roughly) does it take to reach a boss and be able to save that way?
Spookyfoot Apr 29, 2015 @ 7:21pm
The first boss unlocks shortly after you've resurrected 2 planets - so it'll depend a little on how fast you're playing but I'd say about 5-15 minutes for the first boss.

As you progress further into the game, the bosses show up less often but are more powerful, so be aware of that if you are beginning a new session - it may take a little longer to progress than the previous one!

yeah if you're starting with the latest stone, you should be able to get to each new boss within 30 minutes or so i think, and in my opinion that's a high estimate.

This is assuming you're actually progressing via planting. if you're exploring for artifacts, etc you wont be getting any closer to the next boss of course so it would take longer.

Thanks, I'll give it another whirl soonish.

<3 sorry i definitely dont want to sound like i made excuses for myself. I honestly tried to think of a solid system that could still give you the feeling of not starting from scratch every time if the goal is indeed to progress through the game / story / bosses. the game is also meant to be like tetris tho - a simple way to kill time :) it's a lesson in letting go. blah blah indie art♥♥♥♥♥♥malarkey. i know. :)

^^ It's no problem.
I'll just make sure I have an hour or so before I play which isn't a big issue :P
The save & exit feature would have been nice, but I can see why you chose to do it this way instead.

Anyways I do like the game and I'll be recommending it to my friends.

<3 you're the best. Thanks so much for chatting with me in the forums. its good to hear this stuff. Who knows if the game blows up and Im rolling in mad stacks ill know which new feature to focus on first. :)

I found my first boss.... and died, painfully.
I'll get em next time ;)

I feel the need to apologise too. I'm thoroughly enjoying the game and have also recommended it to my friends and didn't mean for my first post on your forums to be so negative and demandy,

I have two childs under 5 and what looked like a clear 30 minutes can turn into a hullabaloo in no time so the ability to quickly just drop out without losing my progress would be ideal. Pausin g and alt-tabbing is a functional alternative (although I've just lost ALL sound, possibly because the game has been running several hours?) and have just seeded my 44th planet so it's no great shakes.

Congrats on a fantastic game and I look forward to seeing what you do in the future.

Hate to say it but this is a game killer/deal breaker for me. Two jobs/two kids here and have to grab whatever random gaming time I can which frequently gets curtailed mid-session unexpectedly. If I had known this going in I most likely would not have bought the game.
