Even searching the forum for similar discussion topics turns up all those where players point out that the DLC adds a great story, nice atmosphere and interesting extras, such as soulbound weapons, increased level cap and three additional NPC companions. Yes, Pillars of Eternity is combat centric, and the DLC requires lots of fighting, too, of course, but the way the DLC is integrated into the base game, most players travel to the first expansion around level 6-8 to start the main quest a bit. The DLC contains an extra side-quest for high-level parties, but that is separate stuff - and if playing on Easy mode or Story Time, it should not be a hurdle for anyone anyway.
I like a good RPG, but I have issues with PoE. I havent even finished it yet. Id probably buy the white march, when its on sale, if it adds something to the game that raises fun. Id like to read some comments from other ppl, tho.
However, the primary reason I mention Icewind Dale when talking about The White March is the winter theme, caves and fortress dungeons to explore. Another dragon, and a clear mission objective that manages to keep player interested.
Well, you come here with a private Steam profile and an unknown personal taste.
I have resons for that, sorry. Im a RPGer at heart and it makes me sick to see half-hearted games. for me, its either full power or nothing at all. the witcher 3 chains me to the screen, while I have issues to even finish pillars of eternity. now you know my taste. I want quality.
I don't think you could make a more subjective remark. "Quality" is not a good indicator of what you like in a game. Comparing PoE to the Witcher series is like comparing Call of Duty to Mario Kart. They're different genres of game, all things considered.
That's something important which you should have mentioned in the original post.
If you don't see the quality of Pillars of Eternity, there is nothing I can do about that.
thanks for the replies.
You kinda filled in the gaps in a later post, exposing yourself as someone, who doesn't like the game because it doesn't meet your personal requirements at all.
That's a false conclusion. The DLC is better, because the developers have put more love into creating it. For example, but not limited to that, the atmosphere in the village of Stalwart is better. You hear villagers talk about things. You can observe them working on something. You get pulled into completing errand boy tasks to build up reputation with them. You can travel forth and back between the expansion areas and the base game areas. However, the expansion cannot fix the base game, its story and mechanics - and if you don't like that, the DLC doesn't change that.
It's not the first game where that is possible because of no quest time limits.
what makes you think youd magically love the DLC after finding the base game boring? sounds like youre forcing yourself to like the game.
its simple, if you dont like the game dont play it.
