Armour and magic

Does armour affect magic effectiveness? The reason I ask is resistance was below zero and yet lightening spear seemed to be much less effective against high armoured targets.

Yes, enemy armor does have an effect on your magical attacks. All magical spells do physical damage as their base damage and then magical damage as their dice. So, if Firebolt is 20-40, that is 20 Physical Damage (soaked by armor) and 20 Fire Dmg (soaked by Resistance and Fire Res). Therefore, cursing armor (Choking Ash) will really help Kjartan's spells pack more of a punch, etc.
