The Fall 1.4 released! New control system.
Hi all! I've uploaded a new patch to The Fall. there are a number of small fixes in this update, but most notably, we've upgraded our engine to Unity 4.5 - that means the game should run a little better and should fix a number of weird little issues that are related to the engine (such as graphical glitches, stability issues, and stuff like that).

Most notably however, our control system has been extended tremendously. We've implemented inControl, which is a middleware for handling gamepads of all types. For a full list, check here:

It's of course quite possible that you may run into issues - if you do, please let me know!

It looks already that there may be a few folks on Mac who are having a hard time loading the game. I've reverted the Mac build back to 1.31 until I can find out what happened!

I see that the "Logitech RumblePad 2" is only supported on Mac. Is there any chance that we can expect support for Windows and/or Ubuntu in the near future?

I am playing this game on Ubuntu 13.04. It worked great before the update, but now the game won't launch. It just shows a black screen for half a second, then immediately closes.

perhaps! Here's the problem. Gamepad manufacturers often don't make their button configurations publically availble, as far as I can tell.... for some bizzare reason. What this means is that without actually having the gamepad, I can't actually get any meaningful configuration data out of it. In other words, what should be the "A" button could internally be listed at JoystickButton0 through 15, for all I know, and it doesn't make much senes for me to go buy up every gamepad under the sun, exactly.

So, I'm not sure.. But they might either expand inControl or users who have unsupported controllers might submit new profiles.. so you never know!

jellobrain23 - that's very disappointing to hear. hmm perhaps i should roll back the linux build for now as well, just in case... I had another user report problems with his xbox 360 controller with this update.

That would be great for now, I really want to play the game :)

yeah, I went ahead and reverted the build, in case there were others who had a problem. Give it a shot now.. you may need to restart your Steam client!

heh, so I "just" bought tha gme a couple hours ago and was playing 1.4 on linux. It seems like after it reverted to 1.31 I can no longer load my game. It gets stuck with "Loading..." in the lower right corner and I have to kill the game.

So now basically the Linux version is exactly as before (old Unity/old control system)?
Hypnoslave  [developer] 5 Jul, 2014 @ 6:49pm
dubigrasu - yes, that's correct.

Okay this is getting slightly sloppy.

Here's what I'm looking into right now. I'm going to see if I can create a beta branch. Those who want to update to 1.4 can do so, and we can use that branch to test stuff until we're sure it's ready for everyone....

Good idea.

Okay guys, the beta is up. You may need to restart your Steam client.

right click on The Fall in your Steam library, go to properties, and then to the beta tab. Select "1_4_Beta" from the drop down. It shouldn't require a password or anything like that.

Let me know how it goes...

Yeah, unfortunately moving up to Unity 4.5 toasts backwards compatibility with save games. If you need to run 1.31, you can delete this file and you'll be up and running again (but will lose your progress):
~/.config/unity3d/Over\ The\ Moon/The\ Fall/prefs

If it works for you though, I'd suggest moving up to the beta branch that Hypnoslave mentions just above.

Hypnoslave there is a weird bug were if you cloack after in a menu your charector model gets stuck.

OK, I tested back and forth both versions and they both work (no problems with the saves) with a single notable difference (mentioned also by someone else):
In the 1_4_Beta version the horizontal axis for the Xbox360 controller right joystick is inverted.
