Why should I pay for an unfinished game?
I was really excited about this game, I own the previous X series but due to financial issues, I was unable to preorder it. It seems though, that I was lucky. I read reviews online, diferent comments on diferent forums and it seems the general agreement is that this game is completly unfinished.

I dont understand why so many companies have to keep releasing whats clearly something not meant to be finished and then claiming to engage in robust bug fixing after the fact. Seems like adding insult to injury.

I feel awful for other hopefull people that were able to preorder only to find all these problems, I hope you are all able to request refunds. I feel even more so for people that have no other alternative than to fool themselves into thinking that its alright for a game to be released in this poor state and that its normal for developers to do their jobs after we've paid for a supoesly final product.

There is no possible excuse that could justify this.

Pre-ordering a single player, digitally downloaded game is probably one of the worst ideas anyone could ever have and it seems a lot of people had that idea. Pre-ordering is from an age of limited physical copies being produced and distributed, why the idea still exists or even exists on a digital platform is unknown to me.

I honestly can't remember the last PC game I played that wasn't buggy and patched to hell after release. The state of the release isn't much different than any of their other games, except this one had a lot of people watching it and were expecting something it didn't end up being. It's not really a traditional X game, but as a game I'm enjoying it so far.

Fortunately, I am not one of the people that cannot play X3 anymore now that they bought X-Rebirth and if I want a game like X3 I will just go play it, maybe with a little X-tended mod action.
People need to take some responsibility for their own actions, instead of blaming the companies do some research or use your brain before you buy ♥♥♥♥. They're not selling you oxygen that you will die without, the game won't expire if you wait a few days after release.

Egosoft is a 20 person company, it is an ambitious game, their games are always buggy on release but are supported to hell and back. What did you expect?

I didn't read it but I'm answering the topic question. The answer is, most games you buy these days are unfinished until the developer stops supporting it via patches, expansions and DLCs. The question I have for you is, following what I just said, what game have you purchased lately that was finished on day 1?
I thought it was 50 people, but still, I understand how games like this work and expected a rough start. I for one am glad there are still companies out there that try to create games like this, the big corporate bastards are to chicken ♥♥♥♥ to try anything out of the norm. I don't blame them for anything, it is their idea, their game, their art. Why people think they get to dictate that nowdays is crazy. No one knows the inner workings of the company, or the inner workings of the code that went into making the game. I'm excited about the engine, the game is definitely lacking so far....but I haven't getting very far into it myself. If I get more than 50 hours out of it I will be satisfied.

Basically, pre-ordering a game on a digital platform is a show of support for the company, a manifestation of trust that the game they will put out will be a quality one. And they just pissed into that bowl of Cheerios.

I personally think there are too many people that don't understand how game development/programming works, they just expect magic from their expensive little light box. If it doesn't work flawlessly the first time with no input of their own, it's a broken piece of ♥♥♥♥ and always will be.
Just because everyone releases unfinished games does not means that it is right to relase unfinished games. Also I have been digging around, this game is not only grossly unfinished, it was never meant to be a pc game at all.

From xbox tags on shaders and all over other files from perfect xbox controller support and little to no support for joysticks let alone hortas, well you get the idea.

This game is trying to make fool of people and I am gald I didnt preordered. If I would had, I would be first in line asking for a refund.

Plain an simple, they lied to their costumers and tried to shove us something they knew was broken and never meant to be a pc game.

I'm not even the OP of this and I can give you any multitude of answers. For huge examples, any 3DS game. Pokemon X and Y had ONE patch. ONE. And they had ONE gamebreaking bug after making an entire engine from scratch, making all 718 unique Pokemon from scratch, translating it into four other languages and could even add in multiple things that didn't need to be there but actually offered one hell of a unique experience. ALL of this in what? Two years?

Egosoft had SEVEN years to perfect this ONE game. All they did is removed what made X special to begin with. Surprise.

This mentality is what allows developers to release unfinished games in the first place, you're part of a huge problem within the gaming industry. This game is in an unacceptable condition and it should not be excused with backwards thinking like this.

The developers have already addressed this, at one point they wanted to try and see if they could do it and they couldn't so they dropped the idea because consoles are garbage and couldn't handle the game. It's not a crime to explore other business opportunities or try something different.

It's not the mentality of the developers, it is the nature of computing and is seen in every single aspect of it. Windows updates all the time. Security issue this security issue that. Java updates. Adobe updates. Patch. Patch. Patch. Update. Update. Update. Car accelerators get stuck. Tires explode on the highway. Phones update all the time. Graphics drivers are constantly updated. This breaks, that breaks. Bugs here and there. That's just how it is, and the larger the project the greater the chances there will be problems. Budgets must be maintained, schedules kept. Ferverous old and potenially new customers have to be satiated through the entire process as soon as production is confirmed or announced to the public. Oh and on top of that someone has to actually be trying to create something during all of this that will satisfy every person in the world.

In all honesty, I think it is the mentality of the consumers that is creating the most problems. Far too much entitlementg on the consumers part in an industry based on art and creativity. People need to chill out with the whole giving companies money before they even do anything, that is not business. While it may work out once and a while, only bad can come from a system like that.

I'm a PC snob, I admit it. I'm one of those "PC is the master race, bugger off" type of people on the internet. But that, sir, is such a huge lie that if you actually believed this company then I question your naiveté. Consoles could more than handle this game. The graphics aren't next gen, the "open-world" is quite small and the things happening offscreen are RNGs, not an actual alive galaxy with things moving in real time.

Well according to the developers the consoles didn't have the memory to handle the game. If you want to just believe whatever, you can, I'm not a game developer so I will take the developers word for it.

I have pre-ordered X:Rebirth to support Egosoft Company like many fan have. That dont mean i am stupid customer, that mean a trusting heart for a little company its all.

I think that this big thing about crying and whinning has been heard by Egosoft and maybe they will work on a real X4 in the future. There is an audience for it even if SC and more land their game. Personnaly i just cant play X:R actually, it dump all the time with a good middle config.
I have tried only near 2 hours and passed most of my time trying to set working my hotas warthog and when it was running a bit .. bam : dump again.
So i have played 1 hour of real game and i have found something i dont like.
I am not happy to discover a X360 sandbox game design because i have paid for a PC game.
I can have the right to say i dont like it i hope !!!
For the 2 hours trying : 14 crash dump is a bit hard :)

I dont cry, i am just disapointed to buy something witch is break its all, like some of us are but that dont mean also i want a refund. I graciously offert my money thinking they will do something good with it. They have familly and have work hard even for a mitigated result.

And i will continue to support Egosoft to make games like XBTF, X2, X3 series thats sure.

I think the problem is that they werent upfront. They werent upfront because they knew they would sell alot less units if they were. So its kind of catch 22. Tell some half-truths and sell more units, or say this game is for more casual play, but still keep your core base and make less money. Well see in the future if the choice they made paid off or not. I think its a very bad choice.

Not just in a moral sense, like you shouldnt ♥♥♥♥ people over, but in a business sense, because alot of people i think wont wanna give one more dollar to egosoft after this one.

all ps3 games for ex. in the earlier days games had to work, cause they were sold on cd/dvd and there was no option like patches for the dev. its about quality management... and the users pay for it. my solution: if its Rome II or X rebirth or whatever. it was my last preorder on steam.
