I would like a refund.
Everything about this game, bar the name and the "nice environments" detracts from my expectations of the franchise. These are my WTFs from the first 2 hours of trying to play the game.

The new map is confusing. Nothing was wrong with the old sector map and radar.
Yisha says "Shut up Betty" every 2 minutes.
Trading is no longer straightforward. You can't go from A to B with a haul of product onboard.
"Show me your wares please". "Show me your wares please". "Show me your wares please".
I have no idea where the hell the space highways are taking me in relation to where I was - and therefor no motivation to learn the (seemingly one-way) routes.
Docking took me 35 minutes the first time. Hit F by luck.
The legions of old bald women saying "Let's do it" in the voice of a porn star is disturbing.
The male NPCs doing squats when talking to me is nonsensical.
The ventilation shafts are repetitive and lack meaningful purpose. Egosoft, ventilation shafts are NOT a selling point.
The bar has "atmosphere" noise added in, even when the bar is clearly empty.
I got stuck between two locker doors for 10 minutes.
I don't know how to access my inventory of mainly spacesuits and panels.
The traffic streams of personal vehicles are arbitrary.
The audio is glitched.
Moving in and out of the cockpit is glitchy.
There is nothing much at all to do on my ship.
Why does the ship rotate itself back to a level plane?
Yisha makes some seriously dumb poses in that chair.
Turning to access the console stops me from flying around and doing things. No more multitasking?
I'm stuck in this ship forever, apart from when I want to go to an empty bar and have unpleasant "conversations" with storyless automatons.
I hate it.

The list goes on. I just want to state that these are my issues with the game. If you want my opinion on how to improve it: Take X2 - Improve the graphics, dialogue and atmosphere. Add a tonne more weapons, products, ships, sectors. Ditch this walking crap. Job done. A great game has been born.

This is not worth £40 as an experience, it is an insulting price for something which does not yet warrant more than £20. I had such incredibly high hopes for Egosoft, set by their great past. Refund or contempt.

Steam Refund Policy
As with most software products, we do not offer refunds or exchanges on games, DLC or in-game items purchased on our website or through the Steam Client. Please review Section 3 of the Steam Subscriber Agreement for more information. (http://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/). An exception is made for games purchased during a pre-order period if the request is received prior to the games' release date.

That's a shame; because I've been ripped off good and properly this week.

I'd say give the devs some time to fix the worst bugs. I'm not hating on the game, in fact I'm having a lot of fun. I'm not ignoring the shortcomings though, and it's not the game I expected it to be. Hype can be a dangerous thing, folks.

Steams policy doesn't override your local law regarding returns, no matter what they try to tell you.

Dregs - There is an option to turn off auto leveling in the options.

I think the devs tried to make a polar opposite Mass Effect. In Mass Effect there really is no space travel haha. There is a simple map you click to send your ship to the next level that loads up so you can walk around. In XR, you actually fly around in space and the levels are a simple mechanic to get you off the ship for a little bit and feel more involved with the people.

Me personally, I like this game. I got bored with the other X games and am no expert on them. Can't wait until this forum quiets down and people get to work enjoying this game for what it is and the devs can patch it up.

I think that bugs contribute to about 10% of my dissatisfaction personally. The other 90% is me coming right out and saying that I feel as though Egosoft have knowingly taken my money and ♥♥♥♥ed down my throat on the back of said hype; using select and minimalistic marketing, encouraging speculation on their forums, fueling the burning fire-desire that was a longing for a true X game, and then serving up a hot plate of ♥♥♥♥ and a slap to go with it.

If you came to me in the mid 2000s and gave me this game (with a different name), and X2, I would be playing X2 hands down but this game would be the shoddy sweat-shop made "me-too-but-oh-so-different-and-sugoi" port for amateur gamers to buy and subsequently never get into games with.

I think you will find that the UK's Distance Selling Regulation is above all T&C's. It is UK Law. I have requested a refund to be processed and have asked Steam to conform to this.

They cannot decide their own Law. Period

how do you ask for a refund on steam?
typhon Nov 16, 2013 @ 6:03am
Hold on, the PC version is clearly not fit for perpose, and that means you are entitled to a refund. if the game worked as described then theres nothing you can do. but it dose not, the joystick configuration funtionality is broken, as in it dose not work and terhfor the game cant be played. the game clearly states it can be played with a joystick. so legaly this game is not fit for perpose as it stands and therfore you are entiteld to get your money back. I sugest as many as posable persue this avanue as a AA rated game with a AA rated price needs to work as advertised to be ligitimate.

Actually it does, since most of the laws that people tout for this only cover physical products bought at the the point of sale or through mail order. Digital distribution is in a grey area with no proper legal coverage. So yeah, chances are your boned. But it never hurts to ask steam for a refund, so long as your polite and explain your reasons properly, you never kow they may agree.

Everytime someone asks about a refund in the UK this gets paroted, which is stupid since it dosen't apply to digital distribution

They can't decide their own law but they can find loopholes (And unfortunately, they have with Distance Selling regulation)

I tried to get a refund before using that regulations an arguement I can't remember their specific reply but it didn't confer with software or something silly because we are utilising a service instead of a product (Or something to that affect). Though if you really are sore about it you could escalate to a civil case and would probably win... just you'd be out of pocket even more money for £40

Actually, with EULA's? Usually by signing an agreement inside of law with a company for some product, or rights to use said product. you void your ability to claim state or country laws. Unless they somehow hurt you directly or ruined your entire life or something... its not as easy as you think it is.
Magnum Nov 16, 2013 @ 6:03am
Dont ask for refund, just wait another year or so, there will be walk-through and lots of help from the community, and patches that will give us the 50% of the game that remains to be coded, no worries :)
