It's sad
This game is by far the best 4x space game ive every played, and I wonder why it isint so popular. it's also sad that the studio closed but nice to see they are still pushing out bug fixes. you did an amazing job guys. if you all can ever get back to it i would love to see that day come. at least the small community holds it up and the modders are very active.

Honestly, considering the sheer number of games being released on Steam on a daily basis now, I'm quite happy with how things went. Many studios don't even survive to a second title.

Just look for us making the sequel, Star Ruler 3: The Search for More Money.

xD. i wish it could be like that, i'm hoping to do game developing as a hobby, and cyber security as a job. maybe i can come up with ideas myself, and maybe i can find some community modders willing to help out. i wish you guys could make star ruler 3 though, the other 2 have doen so well. but really, it's all about maybe this will happen or maybe that will happen. i feel like you guys released at just not the right time.

Thy Reaper, why did you not use Kickstart? I am sure that anyone that played the previous Star Ruler games wouldbe more than happy in helping you and the other guys at Blind Mind Studio to create another sci-fi epic.

Unfortunately the money required to make Star Ruler 2 is an amount that would rival Kickstarters such as Divinity: Original Sin - and we don't have nearly the fans Divinity's series does. It would've also taken a lot of time, effort, and money just to do the Kickstarter itself -- and there'd be no guarantee of success. Also, a game with a failed Kickstarter starts out with a negative reputation -- and that would've made sales for SR2 even worse I imagine.

We simply don't have the fanbase, I fear, to really reap the benefits of Kickstarter - nor the talent-base/studio size/equipment/experience to put together the materials that'd be required to really make such a campaign go viral and so on (we'd need to do filming, need camera crews, equipment, and so on -- which we don't have, and it'd be strange to do a Kickstarter to fund the creation of a Kickstarter haha).

I wish there was another DLC or patch, I would love to have more victory conditions and more treaties (and an AI more willing to make treaties with the player).

I agree with OP, it's just unfair this game flew under the radar of so many people. Mainly because it addresses many problems with 4x games successfully.

Over 4200 games has been released on steam this year alone [] (that's 38% of all games ever published on steam :-p). That number only contains actual games, not DLC, software etc.

3/4 of that is unfortunately complete trash made by devs that just reskin and re-release same games over and over again or slap together games using assests purchased from Unity asset store. Developers like EnsenaSoft that has developed and self published 29 over past half a year.

So no wonder good games like Star Ruler 2 don't get the visibility they'd deserve as they drown under the garbage these "game developers" puke out.

there is a way.
Contractual work for percentage from hobbyists.
I even drafted a suggestion for Steam to create a market "skills and work Bazaar" for all certified/non ceritifed talented people that could be employed by people with idea or with company, but without enough resources.
Hire them by paying for work or by participating in steam success. Steam could pull it off through contracting, and people could present themselves through portfolios through steam.

IT wopuld bring a new era to steam.
The thing Steam first has to do is enable better curator visibility and options. So that good games get bigger visibility and sales.

and I agree, SR2 is one of the best strategies I know of.

what are you guys doing now?
ps have you tried contacting some of the big publishers like MAtrix, Stardock, Iceberg, Paradox, etc that like/could be working with indies?

Go with stardock if you can. They did an awesome job with all their RTS games. Especially ashes(but I love escalation more).

One of the best games I've ever played; period. How it goes unnoticed, for the most part, makes me sad too.

This game is amazing , the only negative point it have is that raised my measure bar so I cant barely play other strategy games .Looking fordward to see SR3 in 2020!

I wish!!!

Divinity Original Sin raised close to a million dollars in USD from nearly 20000 people.

I agree though that there needs to be a way to get better Curators. The big problem is that 4X remains a very highly specialized niche.

I read about 40,000 games published on steam in last year one way or another. Thats not visibility. Thats invisibility.

Just wanted to say I picked up a 4-pack of this game on a recent sale and loved it! Doing some research before we dive in again though, we didn't even realize we seeded the universe without AI until several turns in!
