I haven't unlocked any of the alternate starting characters, either, except for the Teladi Trafficker.
I tried registering at the Egosoft forums, but they apparently don't let you post in the bug forum without special permissions...
EDIT: But I did suddenly unlock all the alternate starts that I should have...
In other news, antivirus can also make your game appear modified as well.
How is one supposed to enter a CD key if you purchased the game through Steam, then?
Right click your game, select 'Register your game'.
Choosing 'Custom Game' at the start will get you the **modified** tag even if you play vanilla. Which is quite sad, I always chose custom since I didn't want to take on any of the roles that were offered.
With a custom game, you can not start any of the plot lines.
You could still earn the achievements that are not connected to it, like 'Filthy Rich'

I play this game on Linux, I have started the regular terran plot a few times always doing the flight school and still I don't have the correct achievement. I'm not in the game so far to get another achievement beside the Crash Course, but as I said - i didn't get that one either.
More info: My game files are ok, checked twice with Steam client restart before checking the second time. I'm running latest game version. I don't have any mods and I haven't started "custom game".
I have read there were problems with achievements on Linux. Someone got them (a year ago?) and then they suddenly stopped unlocking for them. I would like to get reply from one of those people.
The next thing is - Does the game show achievements right in the game? For example Left 4 Dead 2, Half-Life 2 and many other games have the ability to show your achievement progress in the game. Is X3TC capable of this too? If so, where can I see this info?
I would like to get other players - even those who have working achievements or got their achievement in some weird way - to talk about this right here. If you apply to this group (you should because you either got them or can't get them and oth groups apply :-) ), write here please. If there are enough people, we can as well start new thread from the gathered info.

(Why I do this: If I get it right, this game is one big Sandbox with "a few missions". Achievements would be that force which would oush me farther in the game. Not that I don't enjoy the game right now, but with achievements working, there would be more dedication to get better)
This tag will randomly appear in my game without me modifying my game at all. The only cure is to have rolling saves, and check after every save to see if I got that tag (and reload if I did).
