Crashing on Menu? Anyone got a quick fix?
Looks like the devs are AWOL so I don't expect them to answer, but I'm just hoping one of you fine individuals out there have had a crash on main menu and were able to fix it..

The intro stuff loads and about 3-5 secs on main menu it freezes up. Tried the basics; Run as admin, changing compatibility, shut off steam overlay, etc.

I'm well over specs, so it's not that... hmm I think that's all.

Here's to hoping...
*crosses fingers*

It isn't a quick fix but if you want to play the game it may be worth looking up the logs of the game.

My Documents/My Games/WoolfeTRHD/WoolfeGame/Logs

And maybe posting the last part of the logs so that the error a little bit narrowed down because right now I don't think anyone can help when it can be caused by literally anything.

Re-installed this morning, same crash log data and hanging on the main menu. However task manager doesn't say it's not responding, it just sorta sits there, but in-game, it's definitely frozen.
Also, I see it keeps trying to access these save files in the log (Error: Failed to read file '..\..\Saves\84300066\Profile_0.wsg'), but there aren't any that I can find in the game directory or documents folder, nor should there be at this point. I've never got past the menu.

Well if any of you can make any sense of this it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I compared it with the first log my game made and it is pretty much identical (ignoring the different setup). Only the last two lines strike me as odd because it should stop after getting your highest resolution. I assume the resolution dump ends up in an infinite loop because wherever it gets the data uses a different way to communicate it compared to what the game expects. I hope it is understandable what I am trying to say.

My ideas:

-Start the 32-bit variant from here
\Steam\SteamApps\common\WoolfeTRHD\Binaries\Win32
Highly doubt it will change anything but just to be on the save side it wouldn't hurt to try.

-Update graphic drivers if you havent done it yet

-Try to supersample the game hoping that the new avaible resolutions will fix the game.
Thanks for the reply, we didn't even know we had the two versions. Your info led us to what seems to be the solution for now. Much appreciated, Bigworsh.

OK... So it seems the problem may have been Riva Tuner with the 64 bit version. Starting the 32 bit version worked with Riva Tuner enabled, but we disabled it and tried the 64 bit version to test a theory and all of a sudden it's working where it hadn't before.
I know some older games had issues with Riva Tuner but it's been so long since we've experienced any conflicts, it just wasn't on our radar before.
So at this point, the main menu is not hanging up, however I haven't gone into the game proper and will be happy to report back how that goes sometime later.

So in conclusion, if anyone is having the same issue I'd try disabling any montitoring application like FRAPS or Riva because it's possibly causing a conflict with the 64 bit version of the game. However it (Riva Tuner) does seem to be ok with the 32 bit version.

Additionally, Windows troubleshooter recommended running this in Windows 8 compatibility mode, not 8.1. It might be worth it to try that as well. Certainly can't hurt.

I really didn't expect the 32-bit version to fix anything because when I try to start it I somehow still end up in the 64-bit version of the game but I am glad that I could help.
