Main character and general aesthetics of the game are very appealing
I suspect that the main problem with the game was a 2D/3D design. Which I imagine makes everything more complicated. Like the damn cameras that constantly change instead of following you.
When I think of 2.5D games like Crash Bandicoot, they usaully don't complicate combat which is suited more for third person games.
Making 2D game from 3D enviroment is very sketchy and I have seen so many interesting games fail doing that.
Perhaps it should be more like Alice's core gameplay ( not counting mini games )

They might be already working on the 2nd chapter right now, but they won't tell until it's close to release.
