Suck...epic suck
alrite...lets start with saying ive been playin space sims for ages. Tachyon The Fringe = EPIC, good space combat, interesting story line, good diversions, ect.

This game...wow...alrite so the graphics are decent...saying that they were decent 10 years ago. I am disapointed in this game. You look at the preview and reviews and its like ok its got a good plot from what people say, its got alot of freedom....so I bought it, thinking its gonna be fun. Slowest ♥♥♥♥ing game ever, ship speed? what ship speed. even with the seti drive or whatever the ♥♥♥♥, its slow. this is pitiful. If you got 500 years to waste playing a game where, you make no profits in game (go to a solar plant, get energy cells, sell in another system, they will A try to low ball the ♥♥♥♥ outa you or B give you terrible profit.

Wanna build an empire? uhh....hahahahahaha go kill yourself. Im serious. You will be sittin here for YEARS.

Graphics 10/10
Game Play .03/10 (flight controls suck balls from the start, took me 15min to configure controls to acceptable in anywayshapeorform, no customization for unique feel, no ship options on starting game, feels like a downgrade from a game from 10 years ago)
Story (I didnt waste the time&/or even get to it or find it)
Fun (pew pew pew boom) (no upgrading cuz u get no money)
Cheating? Idk if you can for credits, but that would make this game alot more fun, it takes you like 30min to find a single job that pays 2k credits and thats if ur lucky.

over all, game is pretty, id like it more if it actually was entertaining or if it had like guilds or sumthin idk this had alot of potential, but the pace is so slow, theres no fast travel or warp drive or transwarp or planet exploration or eploration of space stations ect. majorly disapointed for the money and amount of time they put into the preview.

TLDR: SUCK dont waste your money.

the game has a learning curve and is not meant to finish in one go. This game is open ended and every thing you get you worked for or die trying. This is as much long term stratagy is it is short term as well space shooter all is posible here.

At first It's quite slow I agree. What makes it so slow that the player dosen't know what to do to earn money and has little to invest. You have to learn the basics and it's painful. But I have to say after a lot of time ( I've put 150 hours into it already) the hard work pays off. From now on I don't have to do a damn thing and still I keep piling up money thank's to my stations and Universe Traders.

And you are wrong about the fast travel. There is the Jumpdrive which you get about the third mission that allows you to travel to any discovered sector at any time given you have enough EC in your freight bay. And from then on you can buy it for any of your ships at the Goner Temple in Cloudbase South West.

You are aware that you can adjust the SETA up to a 10 times speed acceleration aren't you?

I love the X games, but if they aren't doing it for you, or if you'd like to try something in a similar vein but with some multiplayer elements, try Evochron Mercenaries. It's got an over similar vibe, but with the ability to land on planets, multiplayer, and overall easier learning curve. The controls aren't great to start, but are easy enough to customize. My biggest grip with X3 is getting the darned thing to let me use all of the functions of my XBox 360 controller. It seems no matter what I do, the right stick and d-pad don't work, and the triggers are always a "rudder". If I could set the controls to precisely what I want, I might enjoy it. As it is... well, I kinda agree with your assessment. The X games offer a lot, but I don't WANT to play with the mouse and keyboard. I want to play with my XBox contoller or a joystick. Why is that too much to ask?

The X games are not for everyone.

If you have ADD and zero patience find something else to play.

The game does not suck. It's the opposite. You just want instant gratification. Well too bad.

It sounds like you need to go play Star Conflict as that game requires very little attention span and also requires very little commitment as far as time is concerned. I think it's more to your speed and it's free so nothing to complain about.

I have to say it's not what i expected coming from playing Tachyon the fringe but it has more meat on the bones and that is what makes PC Space sims so great! I haven't really done anything yet but I plan on taking my time with this game my only prob is that the font in game is very small as are the HUD icons so it is very hard to see plus I was kinda expecting an empty map (minus my ship and HQ) but that is all good as I am sure it will be a good game!

You know nothing about this game...Here i will hold your hand so that you might understand of how to play this game..As you notice i said "Might"..

1) First thing that people like you, should read the Instruction of how to play.
2) Then you would have known this type of game has a steep learning curve..Of course "Google" could a told you that. But hey, we do have lazy people who likes to complain first and be a azz second..
3) The game is fun..Serious! There plenty of mods that will make you squirt in your pants..You mention cheating for some cash.Did you know there are mods for all sorts of cheating? Squirt squirt...You can even make your own mod..Squirt,squirt..
4) All it takes is time to read and learn and educate your self..Do you thnk you can do that?

Its funny you bought the game and then complain. Are you that smart?

To anyone sayinh this game is great: it's not. X2 was better in its time, the plot missions are ridiculously obscure and scenes lacks even the most basic connections. I literally spent one hour figuring out what I needed to do to follow the Talon (the pirate from the second or so mission) then GTFO when the jumpdrive activated just a second after receiving the "oh he's no more here, let's get back to his base" message from that pseudo japanese girl. I'll probabily try it again in a "custom game" scenario, I'm pretty sure it will suck less.

tl;dr : Frontier is still the best.
Dahkteromar Sep 21, 2013 @ 1:18pm
The plot is the weakest point of the game. It is there to get quickly through it and forget the missions but not the story.

After that comes the real game play :)

1. SETA is a system that cancels out any form of multiplayer. Unless there are mods that give you the game completely recoded for use in multiplayer, that won't happen, so no guilds.

2. Don't worry about the storyline, it's not very good.

3. You think the game is slow? Have you ever seen how fast stuff goes in space? It takes ages to do anything. I agree with you that the starting ship is rather sluggish for having such massive thrusters, but that means nothing. It's a space SIMULATION, after all.

4. The economy in the game is autonomous. Nothing gets spawned in, everything gets simulated. This means that if you aren't getting a good profit, you have already depleted the sector's resources, and should probably move on. The sector layouts were made with holes in them so that creating an empire wouldn't be impossible.

5. Fun is not a feature of a game, it's what you make of it. Patience is a virtue, and if you ever get that virtue and look back on the empire you made in this game, I know you would have enjoyed yourself.

6. There are ship options at the start of the game, but the X series has a good habit of throwing you in the middle of the game without any further explanation. It doesn't hold your hand, and this is good, because in my honest opinion, it's fun to learn to pilot a spaceship.

(Going offtopic a little bit) You can always destroy everything in the sector you want to occupy. No one will complain if no one's alive to do so.

I'd think so too. It would seem rather odd to me if you did. One question though: why are you commenting here if you don't know what the topic is about?

You know what, I tend to agree with Psyco940. I've been playing the game extensively for weeks now and it sucks big time. In terms of commerce, no matter what you buy or where you sell it, you end up loosing money... In terms of combat, the ship you start with sucks and no matter what you do, you get the crap beaten out of 75% of the time. Plus the fact you don't have the reputation to buy anything better even if you had the money, wich you don't.
And please, don't tell me it's because I didn't do my homework... I've read the manual from cover to cover, went through countless guides from the web.
In fact, I come to the conclusion, in my humble opinion, that if it weren't for the various cheats and scripting available, a player would be fresh out of luck from the get go...
Bottom line, if you don't have the game yet, save your money and pass... I wish I did!!
Dahkteromar Oct 20, 2013 @ 4:52am
So how comes then that I have got millions rolling in every hour played and I don't use any mod, script or cheat?

This is because you need to do research on the commerce of a strange and alien environment before you're a massive pro at finding profitsss.

Let me tell you the gist of the plot at the beginning for a second. You're in an experimental ship with weapons that, because of mankind's isolation, are far underpowered. You're to test the jumpdrive, which takes even those away in some collisions by jumping through a self-made jumpgate, which not even the three alien races combined have not been able to even think about doing, hence the bad results. You're stranded, with no way to go back, and you're in debt with a race that totes money. Don't you think it'd be a bit irrealistic if you'd have ANY hope in hell of surviving a single conflict with even a SINGLE enemy ship?

I'm sure you've read more manuals than this one to come to the conclusion that's just what they are: manuals. Not walkthroughs. They're supposed to tell you how to start the game, and MAYBE skip the tutorial. It's not a how to left click to win guide.

I'll have to tell you you're wrong again. Maybe some people would be out of luck from the get go, and I won't blame them for it, but this is simply because they decided not to waste time on finding out how to crawl out of the rather shallow pool of despair your protagonist got himself into by being a test pilot for a universally untested jump device.
