Upgrading your ship

Have been playing the game for a few days & trading to get enough credits to upgrade the shields on my ship. Now have the credits, but equipment docks I try all have 0 available shield upgrades. Do they ever have shield upgrades available or is it not possible to upgrade shields?

Equipment docks get their wares, in this case shields, from other factories that produce the goods.

Can I ask where you are currently located and what ship you are flying? I might be able to direct you towards a sector with a factory that produces the shield you need.

You could also wait for the equipment dock to get resupplied, but I'd advise you to roam around and look for a "Light Shield Production Complex". As long as you stay in relatively safe sectors exploring is fine(Read; Argon, Paranid, Boron controlled territory).

If you have the Disc game of X3 Reunion and have installed the cheat option to jump start the game then there are some good alternatives available. You can pick an equipment dock and change the ownership to yourself, then drop new equipment into dock and energy cells - then change ownership back to the original RACE. Now you can build factories to supply the military hardware needed to the EQD and sell them energy cells, this means you can refill your jumpdrive need of ECells just like at the Terracorp HQ.

bah, see as how he asked how he could find a light shield factory, he's probably new. cheating ruins a great deal of enjoyment in x3. can feel you accomplished something if you just script it in.
