X3: Reunion
Would you recommend this to me?
Hi, I'm looking to get back into this genre. I've been burned a few times on open ended space flight games and so I thought the best thing to do might be to ask the fans here.

I cut my teeth in the genre with the game 'freelancer' a while ago, I loved the ability to customize and acquire new ships. I loved the exploration available (once you got some freedom). I loved that there was more to do than just dog fighting, especially when the modders started to make trading and mining viable. I liked the way the ships handled. I was never content with STO or EVE's controls, where much of the piloting felt like it was done for you.

I don't want to be overwhelmed with detail, returning to base every 5 minutes to refuel etc. That mechanic seemed in another game like a way to extend the length without providing anything interesting, and I am looking for a game, not a simulator. I don't mind refueling, as long as I've got enough time to enjoy the game.

I don't mind learning curves in fact, I enjoy learning new things.

So, is this the game for me, or should I move along? If so, would you recommend anything else? I'll watch the thread and if you need more information, I will provide it.

If you want arcade style space dogfighting...no this is not the game.

This is really a sort of economy sim in space...with space combat.

Watch a few gameplay vids on youtube to get a better idea.
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it.
I wouldn't. Its much more complex than Freelancer and hard to get into.

Plus it's an economic supply chain management type of game, set in space with combat.

Freelancer is much more streamlined and focused.

Try Darkstar One.
If you do want to try an X game maybe get X3 Terran Conflict when it's on sale.

It's more accessible than X3 Reunion.
