Sound will not turn down / Mac

Playing on my Mac, in a window. In the sound configuration, I can turn things up, but not down. Anyone experience this or have any ideas of what to try?

I have the same issue on Windows, all you do is click on the sound you want to change and then use the left arrow key to turn it down. I would think that it would be the same for both formats.
Unfortunately I think the sound itself will suck no matter what platform it's running on :-(
