You can download most of X3 mods (for R,TC and AP) here:
https://xdownloads.co.uk/index.php?option=com_users&view=login&Itemid=101
The mods there have little or no description at all tough, so you may find this thread helpful, as it contains mods descriptions (but many broken links):

I've yet to play TC or AP seriously (only a few hours) but those games have an improved UI, more ships and missions, boarding and finally get rid of the old BBS system for the missions.
Considering this, there is little reason to play R I suppose, except for the plot. If you're interested in directly contuining the plot from X2, then go for R. But X games are not famous for their plots: I personally 've found R plot to be disappointing (bad writing, boring and stereotyped characters) and no real reward at all (you can't get to Earth anyway at the end). But that's my personal opinion
Thanks! for the links and detailed explanation! will see how i go with R and then may jump to TC/AP
